Budding Christian rapper Shauntay Phillips, 11, hangs himself after being bullied by another child at neighborhood pool.

I cringe every time I hear of a child committing suicide. Budding Christian rapper Shauntay Phillips, 11, hung himself last week, according to his family. Last Thursday he was swimming in the neighborhood with friends. According to Nashville's Channel 4 News, his brother said one of the kids started yelling and cussing at Shauntay and that Shauntay was embarrassed because he thought all of the kids were laughing at him.

He was described as polite, sensitive and a great student, and to his family in Clarksville, Shauntay's smile seemed to signal happiness. Never did they think he'd even consider taking his own life, they said.

"This is something that was shock to us all," McCullough-Harris said."He was just so upset, and then he walked up the hill," said Shauntay's brother, Antonio McCullough. Minutes later, Shauntay's father found the boy dead in his bedroom. He hanged himself, family members said. Source

He was buried Wednesday. This is really gut-wrenching and no parent should have to go through this. As a parent, I can't even imagine tragedy of this nature in my home. I echo the words of his family, parents, please talk to your children, ask more questions and get more involved, even if nothing seems wrong. For all those parents out there with bullies, please get help for your children. They are creating unnecessary strife in the lives of other children, who are powerless to defend themselves. This is such a sad, sad situation. Shauntay Phillips is gone far too soon.
