Chicago Police Officer Michael Bailey Shot & Killed Outside His Home, After Finishing Overnight Shift Guarding Mayor's Home

Chicago police officer Michael Bailey was shot to death outside his home, after he finished an overnight shift guarding Mayor Daley's home.

How many more police officers will be killed in the line of duty before major cities increase their crime prevention methods? Another Chicago police officer, Michael Baily, 62, was shot and killed, after he finished his shift guarding Mayor Daley's home overnight. The shooting occurred two men tried to steal his Buick outside his home in a Chatham neighborhood Sunday morning at about 6 a.m., according to the Chicago Sun Times.

Officer Bailey was to retire in two weeks under mandatory rules and had bought himself a retirement gift of the new vehicle, the Sun Times said.

According to media reports, sources said there were three guns found on the scene and that the officer’s gun was empty and open, and so he may have been able to fire at the robbers. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the fallen officer.
