Former U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo says President Barack Obama is the "greatest threat to the United States" and to our way of life.
Former U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo has struck again. This time, during an appearance at a hot dog picnic in LoDo park, to show his support for U.S. Senate candidate Ken Buck, he put his foot in his mouth. He said that the greatest threat to America is "the guy in the White House," namely Barack Obama. So, this stinks of a racial undertone and of all the things that America has gone through in its history, with slavery, Jim Crowism, segregation, "Great Trail of Tears," etc., I am disappointed, but not surprised that Tom Tancredo could utter those words.
A hot dog picnic in a LoDo park was supposed to be Buck's afternoon, basking in the reflected glory of Tea Party favorite Sen. Jim DeMint from South Carolina. DeMint, who is backing those he identifies as true conservatives with big kudos and big money, hosted a fundraiser for Buck and touted him with local media.
Then former U.S. Rep. Tancredo got hold of the mike and flashed his usual flair for controversy. Tancredo listed a series of historical threats to the United States, from terrorism to the Great Depression to world wars, then said:
"I truly believe this
. . . I believe this with all my heart, that the greatest threat to the United States today, the greatest threat to our liberty, the greatest threat to the Constitution, the greatest threat to our way of life, everything we believe in, the greatest threat to the country put together by the Founding Fathers, is the guy who is in the White House today." Sorry, but it is unconscionable to state that Barack Obama is the biggest threat to the United States. I can think of several other threats to the wellbeing of this country -- massive unemployment rates, high foreclosure rates, terrorist attacks, natural disasters such as the BP Gulf oil spill and so on. Tom Tancredo is divisive and if you ask me, his comments have a racist undertone, so I guess that makes him a POS.
