Alvin Greene Makes First Campaign Appearance, Speaks at NAACP Event in Manning, SC

Alvin Greene, SC Democratic Senatorial candidate makes first campaign appearance at NAACP meeting where he spoke of improving education and fighting unemployment.

Do you remember Alvin Greene, the bumbling idiot who won the South Carolina Democratic primary to meet Republican Senator Jim DeMint in the November election? Well, he showed up Sunday for his first campaign appearance at an event sponsored by the NAACP. I'm not surprised that they would run to embrace him while most political leaders have run from him like the plague. According to media reports, he received frequent applause during his speech -- exhortations to improve education and fight unemployment.

Greene started his speech at the monthly meeting of the local NAACP branch in his hometown of Manning by slowly rattling off national job loss statistics and South Carolina's dismal rankings in standardized tests. Organizers moved the location of the meeting twice — first to a larger church, then the local junior high school as the number of people expected to come swelled.

"We have more unemployed now in South Carolina than any other time in our state's history," he said. He suggested infrastructure projects put on hold after 9/11 could be restarted, such as an interstate from Michigan to the South Carolina coast."Let's get South Carolina and America back to work and let's move South Carolina forward," he said. Source: The State
The Manning, SC, branch of the NAACP said it invited Greene to speak so that its members could get to know him. The only reason why he gave a coherent speech was because he read from prepared text. Sorry, but like Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) said, this man was planted by someone. He is a modern-day Stephin Fetchit. I had hoped Sen. DeMint would have faced a worthy opponent, but it seems that his victory is a certainty come November.

UPDATE#1:  I got a call on my business phone this evening from a white man who wanted to know if there was something in Alvin Greene's speech that led me to call him a modern-day Stephin Fetchit. Well, he read from a prepared speech written by someone else, I am sure. He stuck to the script and did okay but here's where the Stepin Fetchit comes in -- put him before a mike without a speech and you will have your answer. To the caller, next time, don't be a chicken. Leave your number so that I can call you back and give you my response live.

Again, this is an election that Jim DeMint will win easily.  The difference between Alvin Greene and Lincoln Theodore Monroe Andrew Perry is that the latter did it for comic relief and went on to become the first black millionaire. Why is Alvin Greene carrying on this ridiculous sideshow? The caller also asked if I didn't stand for anything. Here's what I stand for, voters learning enough about candidates to make an informed decision on who to vote for. Had enough people known that Alvin Greene stood for nothing, we would not be dealing with his candidacy today.
