Utah students learns hard lesson about racism and tolerance. No-one should ever wear something that looks like a Ku Klux Klan hood and think it will be shrugged off as nothing. The KKK made the lives of blacks in this country a living hell. Here's an excerpt from the Salt Lake Tribune:

The teenager who sparked a racism probe at Alta High School when he wore what resembled a Ku Klux Klan hood is back in class. And his mother is speaking out in his defense, hoping the experience can be a catalyst for conversations with other children who may not fully understand the history and hurt of discrimination.

The boy’s mother, who asked to remain anonymous to protect her son’s identity, said he became caught up in the frenzy that surrounds the annual “spirit bowl” at Alta. Seniors dress in black, juniors in white and sophomores in red for a battle of the classes. Each class tries to show they have the most school spirit. Some students dye their hair, wear masks or flaunt capes.

The Alta High mother said her son found a shortened, white pillowcase with eye holes sitting on the bleachers and donned it when his friends encouraged a “whiteout.” He didn’t make the mask or bring it to school. When he ran onto the gym floor raising his arms in the air, she said, he was taunting seniors — not making a “Heil, Hitler” salute.

Manatee County Teacher Kenneth Lewis Shot & Killed as He Opened Front Door of Home

SHOCK: Kenneth Ellis, a martial arts instructor and world history teacher at Manatee School for the Arts, was shot and killed when he stepped outside his home when his doorbell rang Tuesday night at about 10 p.m. According to Herald-Tribune, police say Ellis' wife told them there was no conversation, just gunshots and she also said she saw two people wearing dark clothes and masks running from the area.

A police report said neighbors reported a dark-colored, four-door sedan left the area. Ellis was an original faculty member at Manatee School for the Arts in Palmetto, where he also taught tae kwon do. He was known around the charter middle and high school as "Master Ellis" because of his martial arts skills. Source

Police have no suspects or motive for the murder of this beloved teacher. This wasn't a random killing. This was a deliberate act of violence.

For once Fox News Bill O'Reilly took the high road and slammed Donald Trump for continuing his ridiculous crusade to force President Obama to show his birth certificate.

"You get a lot of attention raising the question, but I don't think you believe it," O'Reilly told the billionaire businessman Wednesday night, noting Obama birth announcements ran in two Hawaiian newspapers.

Animosity Between Barbados & Jamaica Intensifies as Jermaine Blake, Chevine Edwards & Andre Davis Allegedly Beaten & Deported Back to Jamaica

Jamaican nationals Andre Davis, Jermaine Blake and Chevine Edwards allegedly beaten and deported back to Jamaica from Barbados, as animosity between two islands intensifies in wake of Shanique Myrie's finger-rape allegations.

Is a boycott of Barbados in the works? There has been a firestorm brewing in recent weeks over the alleged mistreatment of Jamaicans at the hands of Barbadian law enforcement and airport personnel. According to the Jamaica Observer, Andre Davis, Jermaine Blake and Chevine Edwards were allegedly beaten and deported from the island. The men, who are reportedly partners in a music management/production company, told the Observer they were physically abused and threatened by Barbadian police and humiliated by that country's immigration officers after being denied entry.

If the allegations that the immigration officers inferred the men were drug dealers is blatantly discriminatory and should be roundly condemned by the Jamaican government.  These allegations come on the heels of Jamaican national Shanique Myrie's accusations that she was finger-raped twice by Barbadian officials. I was largely silent on that incident because I wanted to gather more information before speaking out. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of issues dogging the Caribbean islands and yes, crime is rampant, but are you going to profile Jamaicans because of the actions of a few people? Of course, the Barbadian leaders are down-playing the finger-rape allegations and ensuing fall-out as a "family squabble," as a Jamaican delegation, led by Jamaica’s Trinidad-based High Commissioner Sharon Saunders, to get a first-hand look at the room in which Ms. Myrie claims to have been finger-raped.

Edwards told the Observer yesterday that the trio arrived in Bridgetown on Sunday, March 20, 2011 on Caribbean Airlines flight BW55 minutes after 9:00 pm. He said they were removed from the immigration line and their passports and cellular phones were confiscated. They were interviewed individually and proved that they had met all the requirements, in terms of accommodation, business contact, cash and length of stay limits, said Edwards.

"There was a cop who asked us if is we supply Buju Banton with coke. He also asked us if we didn't bring any Bob Marley. I asked what he was talking about as I thought he meant a CD (compact disc), but he said he was talking about ganja. And he asked us if we used drug money to fund our label," he said.

The claim of abuse by the music producers comes just days after Shanique Myrie, a Jamaican national, accused Barbadian officials of finger-raping her twice, spewing venom about Jamaicans and forcing her to endure humiliation. Why all the animosity between Jamaica and Barbados? My husband and I came very close to spending our honeymoon nearly 17 years ago in Barbados because it is such a beautiful place. Surely they don't treat American visitors in such a manner. I hate to use the word discrimination, but that seems to be the case in these unsettling incidents. Why are the Jamaicans being profiled? Crazy. Newsflash to Barbados, not every black person from Jamaica, is a drug dealer and a thug. The reality is we don't need to have Caribbean islands squabbling and we certainly don't want to have accusations of discrimination flying. Both islands rely heavily on tourism and their aim should be to keep it that way. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Jamaica because it is the land of my birth, but there are some serious issues dogging the island and I have often wondered if the British government ran things, if the results would be different.

I guess the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree, does it? His mother, Okolo Talib, 58, also is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She turned herself in to police Tuesday morning and was also charged with felon in possession of a firearm due to a previous conviction, the newspaper said. Bail was set at $30,000.

When will the court system and the NFL send a zero-tolerance message to these young men? It is ridiculous that a few continue to make front page news for their thuggish behavior.

USA Today ran a lengthy investigative piece Monday detailing instances of higher-than normal erasures of answers on standardized tests at 103 of Washington, D.C.'s public schools, including many of the city's high schools.

Acting D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson told the paper that "a high erasure rate alone is not evidence of impropriety." Test scores generally went up at schools where the numbers of erasures were higher than normal, and most of the erasures were wrong-to-right corrections.

Brawl Erupts Between Darby & Colwyn Police Officers, Including Darby Police Chief Robert Smythe, Over Jurisdiction of Accused

DISGRACE: Police officers fighting police officers is simply a disgrace, but that's what happened in Delaware County, PA. The district attorney is investigating the rivalry between officers from the Darby and Colwyn police departments. According to NBC Philadelphia, the fight occurred on March 18 after a Colwyn Borough police officer was flagged down about a domestic dispute.

The Colwyn officer arrested a man who allegedly punched a woman. The arrest evidently occurred about a block into Darby Borough. After the Colwyn officer arrested the man, members of the Darby police force arrived on the scene and a melee began. Darby officers, including Darby Borough Police Chief Robert Smythe, were apparently outraged that a Colwyn officer made an arrest on their turf. Source

Now, if that had been the average person on the street, they would have been thrown in jail, no questions asked. The officers should be held to the same standards.

SHAME: Kevin Larson, Cherry Hill School district's director of operations and facility management, is under fire for sending an offensive e-mail response to Woodcrest Elementary School principal Beth Ann Kob's request for workers to plow snow after a January 28th snowstorm, according to NBC Philadelphia. His response: “All of my polar bears, trained seals and two silver back mountain gorillas on loan from the township were working elsewhere that day.” Wait, there's more: “You should see them with a snow blower that has a banana tied to the front of it, they go through a blizzard like nothing you ever seen,” he reportedly wrote. A source told NBC Philadelphia that he was certain Larson was referring to two black workers as gorillas. Disgraceful. Of course I think he should be fired and the school board voted to do so.

I just find it amazing that people who make such racist comments have the nerve to say they meant no harm. Really? Then why say it? I would like to know what took the school board so long to fire Larson. This email was sent in late January and we are approaching the end of March. Just take a good look at Kevin Larson, who looks like an albino gorilla?

Jamaican Banker David A. Smith Pleads Guilty to $220M Ponzi Scheme Stretching from Jamaica to U.S. & Turks & Caicos

Jamaican Ponzi-king David A. Smith pleads guilty to 23 counts in Orlando federal court for bilking thousands out of $220 million to finance lavish lifestyle.

SHAME: David A. Smith, a Jamaican banker, who was accused of bilking thousands of investors out of nearly $220 million pleaded guilty to 23 charges in Orlando federal court Tuesday. Granted, this isn't on the scale of Bernie Madoff or even Sir Allen Stanford, it is a disgrace nonetheless. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Smith had already signed a plea agreement admitting guilt to four counts of wire fraud, a count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, and 18 counts of money laundering.

Smith pleaded guilty to fraud and conspiracy charges in the Turks and Caicos Islands last year and was sentenced to just over six years in prison there. U.S. authorities picked Smith up in November and brought him to Orlando to face the federal charges here.

Prosecutors say more than 6,000 people from Orange County, Jamaica, the Turks and Caicos Islands and elsewhere invested in Smith's companies, which include the Olint Corp.

People, the moral of the story is, if someone promises you big returns on an investment, then you need to do your homework or run the risk of ending up like the victims of David Smith, Bernie Madoff, Sir Allen Stanford and all the other thugs in suits. David Smith got what he deserved after living high on the hog on the money of others. He made a hefty downpayment on a Lear jet and sponsored the Jamaican Jazz & Blues Festival, among other things, according to the Jamaican Observer. I hope he rots in prison for what he did.

Jamaican Women Using Krazy Glue as Adhesive for Eyelash Extensions AKA "Eye Awnings" Craze

Jamaican women blasted for using Krazy Glue as adhesive for eyelash extension craze sweeping the island.

Well, it seems that the eyelash extension craze has hit Jamaica. It wouldn't be so bad if the method in which the extensions were being attached made much sense -- Krazy Glue. According to the Jamaica Observer, Jennifer Samuda, director of Jencare Skin Farm warned that the use of Krazy Glue and similar adhesive substances on the eyelid could damage the eyes. I guess the Super Glue inventor, Dr. Harry Coover, who died last Saturday at age 94, would be mortified to learn that some Jamaican women are using the an offshoot of his invention as an adhesive for their eyelash extensions. It's not only bizarre but reckless.

“They are using Krazy Glue. It is one of the most dangerous acts,” said Samuda, who was one of seven beauty and wellness experts at yesterday’s Observer Monday Exchange. “I will tell anyone who wants to put on the lashes fine, but that glue and any glue it can detach your retina. The other craze that's hitting the island, well among the more affluent Jamaican women is skin bleaching. People are so superficial it's not funny. It's almost comical to learn that eyelash extensions or "eye-weave" or as some people call it, "awnings for the eyes" (according to the Jamaica Observer)have grown in popularity in Jamaica, that has always been very conservative in many of its mannerisms. But where do we draw the line? Using Krazy Glue to look good is ridiculous and a recipe for disaster.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Providence Missionary Baptist Church in southwest Atlanta associate pastor Derek Moses, who was found shot to death with multiple gunshots wounds in his financial services office. A coworker discovered Moses' body shortly before 10 a.m. Monday.

A co-worker made the discovery at Moses financial services office in the 2000 block of Cascade Road. "Everyone's in a state of shock as to what happened and how it happened," said the Reverend Gerald Durley of Providence Missionary Baptist Church. Police said the victim’s blue BMW was missing from the location, but was later found on Montreat Avenue. Source: WSB-TV

Adulterer Newt Gingrich Exudes Hypocrisy Calling for Defense of Nation's Christian Values During Speech at John Hagee's Cornerstone Church

The last person who should offer views about religion is adulterer Newt Gingrich. Whatever he says in a religious context or any other context for that matter, should be taken with a grain of salt. This is the man who served his dying wife with divorce papers, quite oblivious to the word of God and honoring the institution of marriage. How can he be trusted to honor the presidency of the United States of America? Newt Gingrich exuded hypocrisy during his speech Sunday at Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, in which he railed against secularism and called for the defense of the nation's Christian values. Er, isn't this the three-time married adulterer?

Gingrich, who shows signs that he is interested in the GOP presidential nomination although he has yet to officially declare his candidacy, told thousands of conservative evangelical Christians at Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas, that liberal college professors and mainstream media are turning America into a godless society.

He called on evangelical voters to protect the nation’s Christian roots and its freedoms, citing prayers of past U.S. presidents and the Declaration of Independence.

“I am convinced that if we do not decisively win the struggle over the nature of America, by the time they’re (Gingrich’s grandchildren) my age they will be in a secular atheist country, potentially one dominated by radical Islamists and with no understanding of what it once meant to be an American,” said Gingrich, according to Politico. NYPD Officer Roxroy Bucknor Found Dead in Pool at Father's Home in Montego Bay, Jamaica

SHOCK: NYPD officer, Roxroy Bucknor, who migrated from Jamaica 25 years ago, was found dead in the pool at his father's home in Montego Bay, Jamaica. According to the Jamaica Observer, no foul play is suspected in the officer's death but they are unable to say what caused his death and an autopsy will be performed later this week.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) Elan Powell told the Observer in a telephone interview, Bucknor and other members of his family were at the poolside at his father's house having fun, after which they all returned to the house. It was later discovered that the cop was not inside and a search was launched. He, however, was not found.

The Montego Bay police, who were subsequently called, also conducted a search which also proved futile. They returned to the area after being informed that a body was spotted in the water. "(Yesterday) the police went back there after the body was seen floating in a pool in the yard," ACP Powell told the Observer.

He added: "The water in the pool is very murky and so the visibility was poor." Relatives and friends gathered at the scene were dumbfounded. They watched as members of the St James Fire Brigade fished the cop's body from the pool. Source

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Officer Bucknor. It's hard enough to accept the death of a loved one when it is expected, but quite shocking when death occurs suddenly. I am just a little confused as to how murky the water could be in the pool? Ironshore is an upscale community in Montego Bay, so I can't see the father not maintaining his pool better. There are more questions than answers. Was this a suicide, a murder or he had some medical difficulties such as a heart attack or an embolism? Still, it's amazing how this hasn't made the New York Post or New York Daily News.

President Obama Says Too Much Standardized Testing Makes Education Boring for Kids

President Barack Obama says students should take less standardized tests & says nothing about parental involvement & accountability.

In a move to further dumb-down American kids, President Obama said Monday that students should take less standardized tests and too much testing makes education boring for kids. Er, whoever said we should interrupt the learning experience with a book? They are crazy, right? Of course I am being sarcastic. As a parent of two boys, education means more to me than just a standardized test, but the tests are important to see how much the students are retaining. I went to a Catholic high school in Jamaica and I learned how to think critically and to write essays in response to questions on tests in preparation for General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary level tests. At no time were those exams dumbed-down to be solely multiple choice. Anyone can pass a multiple choice test. It doesn't show you understand the material. To put this in perspective, when I started attending Ohio University, I did not study much for the foundation courses such as Spanish, English and Math. I already did it in high school in Jamaica. I was prepared to meet any challenges in college because of the education I received in grade and high schools.

We can't continue to hold schools only accountable and ignore parents. Some parents just aren't pulling their weight and hold the expectation that the school should fix whatever ails their kids. So, in my view, we don't need to eliminate standardized tests, or else everyone will get promoted to another grade whether they deserve to or not. We can't be competitive with other countries if we continue to dumb-down education in this country. Some careers get no respect, though they are vital such as seismologists, environmentalists, archeologists, marine biologists, etc. Some folks buy into the quick money mentality for their kids such as being a rapper and an athlete. Whatever happened to becoming a seismologist, an architect, an engineer, a park ranger, an archeologist, a marine biologist, a medical doctor or a nuclear scientist? Oh, those fields would involve studying and taking tests.

"Too often what we have been doing is using these tests to punish students," the president told students and parents at a town hall hosted by the Univision Spanish-language television network at Bell Multicultural High School in Washington, D.C. Obama, who is pushing a rewrite of the nation's education law that would ease some of its rigid measurement tools, said policymakers should find a test that "everybody agrees makes sense" and administer it in less pressure-packed atmospheres, potentially every few years instead of annually.

At the same time, Obama said, schools should be judged on criteria other than student test performance, including attendance rate. "One thing I never want to see happen is schools that are just teaching the test because then you're not learning about the world, you're not learning about different cultures, you're not learning about science, you're not learning about math," the president said. "All you're learning about is how to fill out a little bubble on an exam and little tricks that you need to do in order to take a test and that's not going to make education interesting." "And young people do well in stuff that they're interested in," Obama said. "They're not going to do as well if it's boring."

The president endorsed the occasional administering of standardized tests to determine a "baseline" of student ability. He said his daughters Sasha, 9, and Malia, 12, recently took a standardized test that didn't require advance preparation but was just used as a tool to diagnose their strengths and weaknesses, and areas where they could use more emphasis from teachers. We all can't send our kids to prestigious private schools such as Sidwell Friends School as the Obamas have. But we have to work with what we have and that involves parents stepping up to the plate and helping their children succeed in school. Nothing the government gets involved in works. Too much bureaucracy and too much BS.

Parents should enforce stricter rules in their homes where television, video games, texting and Facebook are concerned. As a child, I couldn't watch television during the school week and I did just fine. I cultivated a love of reading that has served me well to this very day. We need to go back to basics and some parents need to stop trying to be their kids' friend and try being a parent for a change. As a child, my mother reiterated the wise saying that "reading is the magic key" and that "a good education is vital" in our home. I expect nothing less of my kids and will do anything I can to help them realize their dreams and excel in school. President Obama is saying that mediocrity is okay with his call for less standardized tests because it makes education boring. Nothing good ever comes easy and that includes getting a good education.

Texas Judge Becky Walker & DA Kit Bramblett Offer to Let Willie Nelson Dodge Jail Sentence If He Sings "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain"

Legendary singer-songwriter and marijuana lover Willie Nelson was given a slap on the wrist by Hudspeth county Judge Becky Walker and district attorney Kit Bramblett in his latest brush with the law for drug possession. According to the Daily Mail, Nelson avoided a lengthy prison sentence for a November arrest. The prosecutor is quoted by the British tabloid as saying, ‘I’m gonna let him plead, pay a small fine and he’s gotta sing “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” with his guitar right there in the courtroom.’ What's worse, the judge went along with this ridiculous offer from the prosecutor. Now if only Latinos and blacks got this type of treatment afforded to them by Judge Walker and County Attorney Bramblett! Where is the justice? if this had been an average person on the street, neither the judge nor the district attorney would have been so forgiving, especially if the accused is a repeat offender. Tara Webb, a resident of Long Island City, NY, was fatally shot by her lover, who later shot himself in the stomach. Webb was celebrating her 27th birthday. According to the New York Daily News, Webb was killed in her Queensbridge Houses apartment, which she shared with her sister and four year old son. The name of the shooter has not been released, but he is listed in stable condition at New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell, the newspaper said. Thank God this POS didn't die and will live to face justice for this unspeakable act. Domestic violence is more prevalent than you can ever imagine. This is such a tragedy. It is a shame that this little boy has lost his mother.

Geraldine Ferraro, 1984 Democratic Vice Presidential Candidate, Dies at Age 75

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Geraldine Ferraro, the first female U.S. vice presidential candidate and one of New York state's most powerful Democratic congresswomen. She succumbed to cancer at age 75. She was a trailblazer in her own rights. She rose from the Queens District Attorney's office to becoming her neighborhood's House representative and then in 1984, she rose to fame as the first female vice presidential candidate alongside presidential candidate Walter Mondale. I did not agree with many of her positions on the issues, but I respected her for the contributions she made to women in politics.

Investigation Launched After Noose Found Hanging in Front of Howard Beach NY School

Noose found hanging in front of Walter Ward School in Howard Beach NY, investigation launched.

SHAME: An investigation has been launched after a noose was found hanging from a tree near Walter Ward School in Howard Beach, NY. You will recall Howard Beach, located in Queens, has a history of racial intolerance, which has improved to some degree, but it is still an insular white community.

School officials could not say if there was a noose and that no one at the school saw anything. According to the Department of Education, when the principal heard about it, she went to the location, but there was nothing there. She said no student was outdoors due to the inclement weather so no one from the school saw it. The investigation is ongoing. Source

Sorry, but a noose popping up doesn't exactly mean the community is safe for blacks and Latinos. The nerve to put that up in front of a school!

Metro Atlanta No. 1 Spot for Minority-Owned Businesses

Metro Atlanta, besides being a great place to live (at least most parts of the city), it leads the nation as the No. 1 spot for minority-owned businesses on a per capita basis, according to the results of a survey of 52 metro areas. According to the AJC, in February, the U.S. Census Bureau released figures that showed black-owned businesses in metro Atlanta grew 99 percent between 2002 and 2007.

“The ‘capital of black America’ has become a buzzing hive of Hispanic and Asian immigrants and entrepreneurs,” Forbes writes.

Baltimore, Nashville, Houston and Miami-Ft. Lauderdale round out the top five spots. The next five are the metro areas of Oklahoma City, Riverside-San Bernadino, Washington, D.C., Orlando and Phoenix.

Forbes looked at metro areas with populations of more than 1 million. It said metro Atlanta was No. 2 in self-employed minorities and No. 2 as an entrepreneurial region. Combined with a growing population, increasing household incomes and affordable housing, Atlanta took first place, Forbes said. Source

Letter allegedly written by Arizona substitute teacher Tony Hills says "Hispanic students don't want to be educated, they want to be gangsters" sparks outrage.

A firestorm has erupted in Arizona over a letter purported to be written by a substitute teacher, Tony Hill, in which he asserts Hispanics students don't value education and 'just want to be gangsters.' The letter was read in the U.S. Senate. The letter also alleged that Hispanic students think white Americans are racist, according to the U.K. Daily Mail. Here's the letter in its entirety (Daily Mail):

Dear Senator Russell Pearce,

I am compelled to write to you about a recent event that occurred to me. I currently work as a substitute teacher in the west valley areas of Phoenix, Glendale, and Peoria. I was called upon to teach history and language arts for 8th grade at a Glendale public school. The number of students I had in each class ranged from 28 to 38 children, which were almost all Hispanic and a couple of Black children. The day started out as usual turning on the television listening and watching the announcements and saying the Pledge of Allegiance. During the Pledge of Allegiance I notice the vast majority of students refusing to stand and say the pledge. I asked the students why they refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance and they responded by saying, 'we are Mexicans and Americans stole our land'.

The teacher's instructions were for the students to read a few pages and answer the questions regarding Mark Twain in their history textbook and to finish their final drafts to Senator Steve Gallardo thanking him for his position on Illegal Immigration rights. Their teacher apparently had showed them a video with Senator Steve Gallardo and Lou Dobbs. Most of the students came unprepared for class not possessing paper and pencil. I provided the students with paper and pencils only to have them wade-up the paper and throw it at each other along with their pencils.

The students' final drafts that I read were basically the same. Most of them stated they were in the country illegally, White Americans are racist, and that they came here for a better life. I asked the class if America adopted Mexico immigration laws would Americans still be consider racist?

That question they could not answer and called me a racist for asking it. I mentioned that my wife and children are Hispanic so how could I be racist? I asked the students to stop speaking Spanish in class because it was impolite to speak a language in front of people who may not speak that language. Their response was that Americans better learn Spanish and their customs because they are taking their land back from us.

When it came to completing the Mark Twain assignment only ten students completed it out of all my classes. Most of the students refused to open the book, tore the pages out of the book, or threw the textbooks at each other. I thought are these the students we are trying to educate with taxpayers money. I have found that substitute teaching in these areas most of the Hispanic students do not want to be educated but rather be gang members and gangsters. They hate America and are determined to reclaim this area for Mexico. If we are able to remove the illegals out of our schools, the class sizes would be reduced and the students who wanted to learn would have a better chance to do so and become productive citizens.

I applaud and support your efforts to stop this invasion into our state and country. When the citizens of a country are forced to speak the invaders language, adopt their customs, and forced to support them, are we not a conquer nation? The letter, from 'Tony Hill' who claimed to have taught at an unnamed school in the Glendale area, said that the eighth-grade Hispanic students claim: 'We are Mexicans and Americans stole our land.'

If this letter is genuine, then I wish Tony Hill would come forward and explain this ridiculous letter. I am sure there are some white kids who don't take school seriously. This is a prime example of why we can't make any progress on race relations in this country if we have people like this substitute teacher make such scurrilous claims.

Rebecca Lanier, Born to Slave Parents in MS, May Be Oldest Woman at 119, but Guinness Won't Recognize Due to Lack of Birth Certificate

Rebecca Lanier, born to slave parents, may be world's oldest living person at 119 but Guinness World Record won't recognize because she has no birth certificate due to prejudice in the South during 1890s.

ODD: Rebecca Lanier, who was born to slave parents, is suspected to be the oldest living woman in the world at age 119, but there's one hitch. The Guinness World Record won't bestow that honor upon her because she doesn't have a birth certificate, which they require to prove age. The family maintains that the letter from Social Security Administration verifies her age. Of course, this isn't her fault now is it? Blacks weren't recognized as anything but property back in the 1890s, so the thought that she would have a birth certificate in her possession is ridiculous.

Mrs Lanier, of Warrensville Heights, Ohio, who was born in March 1892, has seventh-generation grandchildren and outlived her husband and their two daughters. She was born in a small Mississippi community to parents who had been slaves, at a time when many laws were prejudiced against black people in the South.

Because Mrs Lanier is black she was born with no birth certificate in the 1890s, which was normal in the South even though slavery had ended almost thirty years earlier. Source

Prejudice and denigration of blacks ruled the day in the South back then, so the Guinness World Record should make an exception on the historical context this all occurred in.

Former Ku Klux Klan Grand Dragon John Paul Rogers is a mayoral candidate in Lake Wales, Florida. Er, who their right mind would vote for someone who was a card-carrying member of the KKK? Oh, wait. The late Sen. Robert Byrd didn't have a problem being reelected many times over despite his KKK past. Rogers currently serves as a commissioner and now wants to step up his political game. Hah. He told 10 News Tuesday, "I'm not running for the Klan for Grand Dragon." But that's not something you can sweep under a rug and ignore. Nooooo. He was a leader in the KKK and I am sure still has some racist buddies running around Florida.

He says, "Well I resigned years ago, about 30 years ago. Jesus said, 'He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone,' and so far no one's hit me with a rock. I don't know of any act of any violence that was sanctioned by our organization, either national or in Florida."

But Darryl Paulson, a USF professor, who is an expert in the Klan, points to a case in which two Klansman with the United Klans of America were convicted of attacking 19-year-old Michael Donald in 1981 in Mobile, Alabama. Donald was beaten up and his throat was cut.

Paulson says, "They hung him from a tree and they were sued in court and the civil judgment was launched against the United Klans of America. The jury awarded a six million dollar settlement to the mother of the slain child."

He adds, "When Rogers says he resigned. He had no other choice. The United Klans couldn't pay off the six million dollar settlement but they lost their headquarters. Their headquarters was sold as part of the judgement so in essence they were forced out of business. They were financially bankrupt."

Paulson says, "I think that they were the most violent of the Klan organizations. I think their fingerprints are on a lot of different things that happened - most of them negative with respect to racial incidents during the 1950's and 1960's. I know people can change, but it seems Mr. Rogers was forced to change by a multi-million dollar lawsuit, not because he realized the error of his ways. On that basis, he doesn't deserve to be the next mayor of Lake Wales. He said "let he is who is without sin cast the first stone," I hope he feels that way about everything if he is elected and have selective memory.

Rev. Jesse Jackson Warns Against Changing Military Intervention in Libya, Says UN Resolution Wasn't to Wipe Out Moammar Gadhafi

Rev. Jesse Jackson warns against changing face of military offensive in Libya, says UN mandate was about containment and cessation, not to wipe out Moammar Gadhafi.

I knew it was a matter of time before so-called "civil rights leader" Rev. Jesse Jackson gave his two cents about the military offensive in Libya. He addressed the Trinity College Historical Society in Dublin Tuesday, where he appeared to accept a gold medal for his "civil rights" service, and said he was very concerned with the United Nations mandate that seems to have been stretched beyond its original purpose of creating a no-fly zone to protect the Libyan people from the barbaric attacks by Moammar Gadhafi. Of course, true to form, Jesse had to take it a step further by warning against excessive force in Libya and other parts of the Middle East. Wow, I didn't realize we had other military offensives taking place in a fourth country. The problem is if Gadhafi survives this attempt to force his resignation, he would have thumbed his chin at the West and will become even more entrenched, in the same vein as Fidel Castro. That would be an enormous problem for President Barack Obama. Here's an excerpt from the Irish Times:

“Something had to happen to stop the genocidal march. On the other hand the UN’s resolution was about containment and cessation not about aggression. It was not a resolution to wipe out Gadafy but a humanitarian mission to save the victims of genocide,” he said.

“It seems that the definition of the mission has been stretched beyond its original intent. Therefore we are getting closer and closer, from oversight, to more action on the ground.”

It was particularly worrying that the multinational coalition had gone from imposing a UN mandated no-fly zone to attacking Col Gadafy’s compound in Tripoli. This action meant there was a real risk the situation would worsen, he said.

“To attack the compound where Gadafy essentially lives, that’s going beyond what that mandate was and that is compounding the crisis and is opening up another war front.”

If Jesse Jackson thinks Moammar Gadhafi is holed up in his compound, he's dumber than I thought. It's time to for this madman's reign to come to an end and I suspect if more people got up and said enough is enough, then things would change, as in the case of Egypt when Hosni Mubarak was forced to resign. The same thing needs to happen in Libya, but Gadhafi will do anything to stay in power. He won't listen to reason and so other avenues must be explored. In the same vein, America can't be everyone's savior. We have some serious economic issues confronting us as a nation and the last thing we need is to dole out billions of dollars fighting another war. We have an economic war going on right now that has seen thousands of Americans lose their homes and jobs, added with rising food and gas prices. We are seeing the "dumbing down" of America where schools in poor communities are being closed and some local politicians are hellbent on resegregating schools. We have some serious challenges that we must confront and hard choices must be made. America first, Libya last.

Athens-Clarke Senior Police Officer Elmer Christian was fatally shot and another officer wounded while responding to a carjacking incident. Jamie Hood is the suspect in the shootings. According to Officer Down Memorial Page, Officer Christian had just responded to the area when he encountered the suspect, believed to be Hood, who shot him while he was still in his patrol car. Officer Christian is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. This is a sad turn of events.

Manhunt launched for Jamie Hood after one police officer fatally shot, one wounded in Athens-Clark GA in apparent carjacking.

SHOCK: Another police officer has been shot and killed. Athens-Clark police officers are searching for Jamie Hood, who is suspected to be driving a silver Geo Prism with GA tag 375GHX. A gunman shot and killed one police officer and wounded another at the entrance of Cascades on the River apartments, according to Athens Banner-Herald.

Police warn people should consider the man armed and dangerous and call 911. Clarke County school leaders have placed all schools on lockdown.

Authorities swarmed a neighborhood off Atlanta Highway around 1:30, sealing off the area of Sycamore Drive, about midway between Alps Road and the Middle Oconee River. Police and other law enforcement officers were searching house-by-house for Jamie Hood, 33, a black man who weighs about 175 pounds and is 5 feet, 9 inches tall. He has lived in the area, police said. Hood may have carjacked of stolen the Geo Prism on Epps Bridge Parkway near Windy Hill Court.

Witnesses said he is bald or has close-dropped hair and barefoot, wearing blue shorts and a white T-shirt, possibly with a yellow design. Police are asking anyone who sees a person matching that description to call 911. Source: Athens Banner-Herald

Liberal Democratic Party of Russia leader and Vice-Chairman of the State Duma Vladimir Zhirinovsky released a statement today calling for the Nobel Prize Committee to take back the honour bestowed on US President Barack Obama in 2009.

Zhirinovsky said the attacks were "another outrageous act of aggression by NATO forces and, in particular, the United States," and that the attacks demonstrated a "colonial policy" with "one goal: to establish control over Libyan oil and the Libyan regime." He said the prize was now hypocritical as a result.

Bolivian President Evo Morales echoed the call: "How is it possible that a Nobel Peace Prize winner leads a gang to attack and invade? This is not a defence of human rights or self-determination." Morales won the Gaddafi International Prize for Human Rights in 2006. He is amongst a number of left-leaning Latin American leaders who have denounced the attacks against Libya. Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, Rafael Correa of Ecuador, Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua and Cristina Ferdinez of Argentina have all criticised western media coverage of the Libyan crisis.

I seriously doubt President Obama is losing sleep over this. The bigger issue for me is why he didn't notify Congress, with clarity, about the military intervention he ordered.

SHAME:  It is a low-down dirty shame that 70 percent of Americans do not know that the Constitution is. Six percent are oblivious to when Independence Day is. It gets worse. Newsweek magazine recently gave 1,000 Americans the U.S. Citizenship test, which immigrants who apply for naturalization must take, and found that their is a serious lack of knowledge of the history and running of their own country. Though the majority passed the test, 38 percent failed. Here's the thing -- the government makes the test such a focal point of the whole naturalization process that it is laughable that some natural born citizens have no clue about the very thing they are forcing others to learn.
 
It is time to go back to basics. Children aren't learning much about their country in schools. I remember as a kid growing up in Jamaica, you had to know the national anthem, the names of the national heroes & heroine and the complete history of the island from A to Z. It's okay to move forward in this technological age, but we cannot do so at the expense of our children getting a solid education, which includes a complete history of their country.

Tyeshawn Townsend, 4, died after accidentally shooting himself in the face. According to media reports, it is believed he picked up a loaded gun in his Baltimore home thinking it was a toy gun. The child died from a single gun shot wound to the face, the Daily Mail reported. It is obvious that the gun was improperly stores in the home. What's shameful is the fact that the child was not in the home alone. The police need to arrest the parent(s) for negligence and recklessness. Some people just shouldn't be given the responsibility of being a parent.

Colonel Khamis Gadhafi, Son of Libyan Dictator Moammar Gadhafi, Allegedly Killed in Suicide Air Mission

Colonel Khamis Gaddafi, son of Libyan madman Moammar Gaddafi, was allegedly killed in a suicide air mission on his barracks, the Daily Mail said.

Khamis, 27, who runs the feared Khamis Brigade that has been prominent in its role of attacking rebel-held areas, is said to have died on Saturday night.

A Libyan air force pilot crashed his jet into the Bab al-Aziziya compound in Tripoli in a kamikaze attack, Algerian TV reported following an unsubstantiated claim by an anti-Gaddafi media organization. Khamis is alleged to have died of burns in hospital. The regime denied the reports. It was claimed he died in the same compound hit by RAF cruise missiles hit by coalition forces last night.

Loyalists have been photographed with shrapnel from the missile that struck the building and throughout the day there has been no information on Gaddafi's whereabouts. Source

Fond du Lac Police Officer Craig Birkholz Fatally Shot During Stand-Off During "High Risk" Call, Suspect Commits Suicide

Another police officer has been killed. According to media reports, a police officer, responding to a "high risk" call in Wisconsin was shot & killed. Officer Craig Birkholz, with the Fond du Lac Police Department was fatally shot after he and another officer responded to a home at about 6 a.m. The second officer was critically wounded during the ensuing shoot-out and standoff, according to Officer Down Memorial Page. The suspect committed suicide during the gun battle. Officer Birkholz, 28, served with the police department for two years.

President Barack Obama follows the lead of three powerful women in American politics, Hillary Clinton, Samantha Power & Susan Rice, who pressed him for military intervention in the unrest in Libya, though Congress not consulted.

President Barack Obama only acted on the mess in Libya, perpetrated by madman Moammar Gadhafi after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Samantha Power, senior aide at the National Security Council and Susan Rice, ambassador to the United Nations, pressed him for military action. The three women were pushing for intervention by the United States to stop a humanitarian crisis from increasing in Libya. I find it telling that President Obama danced around the issue and was only too happy to let French President Nicolas Sarkozy take the lead on this. As much as I can't stand Newt Gingrich, for the enormous amount of hypocrisy he exudes, I do agree that President Obama came off as a "Spectator-in-Chief" and not our Commander-in-Chief. The fact that Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice, Samantha Power and others recognized that we cannot allow this madman to continue on his path of murdering Libyans for calling for change and called for military intervention, shows Obama either doesn't understand much about foreign policy or he was just slow out of the gates. Sounds a lot like the BP Gulf oil spill, right? On a serious note, did President Obama forget he needed to apprise Congress of what he was going to do? The fallout from this will continue.

In joining Ms. Rice and Ms. Power, Mrs. Clinton made an unusual break with Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates, who, along with the national security adviser, Thomas E. Donilon, and the counterterrorism chief, John O. Brennan, had urged caution. Libya was not vital to American national security interests, the men argued, and Mr. Brennan worried that the Libyan rebels remained largely unknown to American officials, and could have ties to Al Qaeda.

The administration’s shift also became possible only after the United States won not just the support of Arab countries but their active participation in military operations against one of their own.

“Hillary and Susan Rice were key parts of this story because Hillary got the Arab buy-in and Susan worked the U.N. to get a 10-to-5 vote, which is no easy thing,” said Brian Katulis, a national security expert with the Center for American Progress, a liberal group with close ties to the administration. This “puts the United States in a much stronger position because they’ve got the international support that makes this more like the 1991 gulf war than the 2003 Iraq war.” Source: NY Times

Still wonder who you would prefer to answer that early morning call in the White House? Sorry, but I think Mrs. Clinton would have been a far better president. If Gadhafi doesn't back down, then he should get a dose of the terror former President Ronald Reagan unleashed when he ordered the bombing of Libya, code-named Operation El-Dorado Canyon, on April 15, 1986, in response to the 1986 Berlin disco bombing. He lost a daughter in that incident and we didn't hear peep out of him for a long time. That's what he needs again. They should go after his residence and hit him where it hurts. Back to President Obama, while he's busy yukking it up in Rio, he's coming across as not the leader of the most powerful country in the world. Don't get me wrong, I understand that Obama may not have wanted to come across as going to war against another Muslim country, but the French, Brits and Germans were ready to intervene in the name of basic humanity for the people of Libya who are within their rights to call for a change.

BREAKING: CNN is reporting building in Gadhafi's compound hit by cruise missile from U.S. ship. Too bad they didn't the building he was in.

UPDATE#1: Seems like President Obama ignored his own words on the campaign trail and went to "war" without Congressional approval. It is also a sad commentary that the voices of reason in Congress -- Rep. Charlie Rangel & Dennis Kucinich (who wants to bring impeachment charges against Obama) are less than pleased with the president's handling of this so-called war. Also ticked off at the president are Reps. Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.), Donna Edwards (Md.), Mike Capuano (Mass.),  Maxine Waters (Calif.), Rob Andrews (N.J.), Sheila Jackson Lee (Texas), Barbara Lee (Calif.) and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D.C.), “all strongly raised objections to the constitutionality of the president’s actions,” according to Politico.

Haitian Hip-Hop Star Wyclef Jean Released from Hospital After Being Shot in Hand in Delmas, Outside Port-au-Prince

Hip-Hop star Wyclef Jean, once a Haitian presidential hopeful, was released from a hospital after being treated for a gunshot wound to his hand. According to Fox News, Joe Mignon, senior program director for his Yele Foundation, said he was shot in the hand after 11 p.m. Saturday night in the city of Delmas, outside Port-au-Prince. No word on what led to the shooting or if a suspect is in custody. Mum is the word.

UPDATE#1: The police said the doctor confirmed Jean was cut by glass, not a gunshot wound. This is funny. He claims he was grazed by a bullet. Wow, really Wyclef? Don't you think the doctor knows a cut from glass and a bullet wound? Attention whore.

Sandusky Police Officer Andrew Dunn Shot & Killed Attempting to Question Suspect

Sandusky OH police officer Andrew Dunn was shot and killed as he attempted to question a suspect. The suspect, a male, was riding a bicycle and shot the officer as he approached him. The suspect was wounded in the ensuing gun battle, according to Officer Down Memorial Page. Officer Dunn, 30, had been with the Sandusky Police Department for three years. He is survived by a wife and two kids.

Johnathan Alvarado, One-Time Minister of Music at Eddie L. Long's Church, Facing Probe by DA for "Crimes Against Children"

Bishop Johnathan Alvarado, one-time minister of music at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, facing probe by DeKalb district attorney for "crimes against children.?

Another metro-Atlanta pastor is in the news for all the wrong reasons. According to WSB-TV, allegations of sexual abuse (as reported by 11 Alive News) against children have been leveled against Total Grace Christian Center senior pastor Bishop Johnathan Alvarado. Though the DeKalb district attorney's office won't divulge what those accusations are, they have assigned a case number to the probe, as well as an assistant district attorney and an investigator.

The case listing makes reference to possible "crimes against children". Two weeks ago, an anonymous tip regarding possible misconduct by the bishop led Philips to the church. In between his two visits, Eric Philips was in contact with the DeKalb County district attorney’s office. A spokesman for the office sent Philips a short statement Tuesday stating “We are aware of the allegations involving Johnathan Alvarado and are looking into the matters.”

According to the church’s website, Alvarado began Total Grace Christian Center in 1992 after serving as minister of music at several churches in metro Atlanta, including New Birth Missionary Baptist church in Lithonia where Bishop Eddie Long is pastor. The site states that the church has grown to 5,000 members with three local locations. Alvarado is married with three children. Source

It's ironic that Alvarado has some connections to the embattled Bishop Eddie L. Long, who was accused of sexual coercion by four young men who attended the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church -- Maurice Robinson, Anthony Flagg, Spencer LeGrande and Jamal Parris. It should be noted that Long had a deep connected to the disgraced late Bishop Earl Paulk. Let's see how this plays out in court. If true, he deserves to spend a long time in prison.

Body of Missing Bronx Mom Tina Adovasio Found in Wooded Area, Estranged Husband Edwin Coello to Turn Himself in to Police

Domestic violence rears its ugly head as body of missing Bronx mother of four Tina Adovasio found in wooded area off Taconic Parkway, estranged husband, Edwin Coello, to turn himself in to police.

SHOCK: The body of missing Bronx Mom Tina Adovasio, who is estranged from her ex-police husband Edwin Coello, was found in a patch of woods in Westchester County on Wednesday night by teens riding four-wheelers, the New York Daily News said. Coello, who has a history of abusing his wife, is expected to turn himself in to police today. Adovasio's body was discovered off Taconic Parkway in Yorktown Heights, the newspaper said.

Adovasio so feared her raging husband that she applied for a restraining order the same day she filed for divorce last month, sources said. During questioning after her disappearance, Coello seemed to be the "helpful husband" until about 12 hours in when detectives asked to look at his car. He refused and clammed up, sources said.

He did tell detectives Adovasio scratched him before storming out of their home Friday night, sources said. "It was as if he knew what was going to happen so he told us that they had fought earlier and she had scratched him, in case we found his skin under her fingernails," one source close to the probe said. Domestic violence happens more often than you may imagine. It doesn't have to be physical. It can manifest itself in others ways, such as mental and financial abuse, to name a few. So many women live in fear of their lives because of men such as Edwin Coello. To think this man was a police officer, who could carry out his rage on people he came in contact with. He is a former housing police who was forced to resign after abuse allegations involving his first wife surfaced.

Independent Buffalo Congressional Candidate Jack Davis Says Deport Latino Farmworkers, Replace with Inner City Blacks to Pick Crops

Independent Congressional candidate Jack Davis stuns Buffalo GOP leaders by saying Latino farm workers be deported and replaced with inner-city blacks to pick crops.

Independent Congressional candidate Jack Davis shocked just about every Buffalo GOP leaders with his racist comments suggesting that Latino farmworkers be deported and that African-Americans from the inner city be bused to farm country to pick the crops. Is that like black slaves picking cotton for the massa? Why not bus in the poor white people in New York State and nearby states to pick the crops? Why do we constantly interject race in every dogfight? Um, this is the same party that says it wants to go after the black and Latino vote. Really? Let's see how far they go 2012. Please, please, nominate Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann to be the next Republican Party presidential nominee and this idiot, Jack Davis, as the vice presidential candidate.

Several sources who were in the Feb. 20 endorsement interview with Davis confirmed his comments, which echo those he made to the Tonawanda News in 2008, when he said: "We have a huge unemployment problem with black youth in our cities. Put them on buses, take them out there [to the farms] and pay them a decent wage; they will work."

When Davis repeated those sentiments in the recent interview, the Republican leaders -- who later delivered the party endorsement for the vacant seat in the 26th Congressional District to Assemblywoman Jane L. Corwin of Clarence -- said they couldn't believe what they were hearing.

"I was thunderstruck," said Amherst GOP Chairman Marshall Wood. "Maybe in 1860 that might have been seen by some as an appropriate comment, but not now." Davis spokesman W. Curtis Ellis acknowledged that Davis' comments "may not be politically correct and ... may not be racially correct." Source: Buffalo News

I can't stand a politician who tries to justify an obviously insensitive statement as a just one. Where has Jack Davis been? I'm sure there are some trailer parks in his city, why not round up those residents to pick crops? The seat he is vying for was vacated by "bare-chested Craig's List married Republican hypocrite" Rep. Chris Lee.
