President Obama & White House Seem to be at Odds with the American People

President Barack Obama and company seem to be in defend-mode with just about everyone, including once ardent supporters such as James Carville, what's going on?

What is happening to the once-pride-and-joy of the media and rock-star on the world stage, Barack Obama? It seems that his administration is at odds with just about everyone, including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). It seems that President Obama and his administration is constantly in defend-mode. Wow, that hasn't been seen since Jimmy Carter. Bill Clinton caused a major ruckus with the Monica Lewinsky affair and though the Republicans threw the kitchen sink and everything else at him, including impeachment, he was still able to get things done and left the country with surpluses in its coffers.

Some have said President Obama has moved the country farther to the left than any other president since Franklin D. Roosevelt, as evidenced from the epic nationalization of health care, which many people still can't decipher, plus the failed foreclosure rescue plan and the billions in bailouts to too-big-to-fail banks that haven't reciprocated to Main Street. I am still wondering how much of a difference the new Wall Street reform will make to people on Main Street, like you and I. To be honest, I can't blame President Obama for everything, like the people on the right are doing, because he inherited much of this mess from a Republican President, who, like the Tasmanian Devil blew through the surpluses his predecessor left, invaded Iraq on a lie, engaged in runaway spending, saw the implosion of the American economy that plunged us into a recession, all the while embracing the very institutions that caused this mess in the first place. So, there is enough blame to go around for everyone.

I must admit that I am very surprised by the outpouring of sharp disagreements with Obama that many of his ardent supports, including James Carville, are voicing publicly. It's unfathomable that the Obama & Co. that ran such an impeccable presidential campaign are largely MIA and floundering like a fish out of water. Even on the world stage, President Obama, who was once revered by many as an "international savior," has been running into sharp criticism, a loss of faith and being seen as a great vacillator. There seems to be a daily slugfest of some ilk at the White House. Last weekend we saw Press Secretary Robert Gibbs saying "there are enough seats in play that could cause Republicans to gain control" of the House. Even though the poll numbers on tilting towards the Republicans, that was the last thing he should have said and shows some level of capitulation on his part.

President Obama must get a backbone and stand on the principles he mesmerized us with on the campaign trail. I had hoped my vote was for someone who has a deep conviction in helping Main Street, as well as returning this country to its former standing in the grand scheme of things. Instead, what I have seen of late, is a bumbling president, whose polls numbers are abysmal and who is inching closer to the attributes used to stereotype Jimmy Carter in every sense of the word. Does President Obama get it that the average American irate about the economy, illegal immigration and the incompetence in the way the BP Gulf oil spill was handled? Sorry, I don't mean to sound the alarm, but to echo the words of Patti Labelle's intro to the Oprah Winfrey Show, Obama had better "get with the program" or else he and many Democrats will be put out to pasture.
