American Nate Henn, former University of Delaware rugby player, among 74 people killed as explosions tore through crowd watching World Cup final in Kampala, Uganda.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of ex-University of Delaware rugby player, Nate Henn, who was among at least 74 people killed when explosions blasted crowds watching the World Cup final at a rugby club and restaurant in Kampala, Uganda. Nate Henn worked with aid group Invisible Children in Uganda and the group said he "leaves behind a legacy of honor, integrity and service."
According to media reports, Henn had raised thousands of dollars for Ugandan children's education as a U.S.-based volunteer, and then traveled there to see the country and meet the students, the group said.
The children "fell in love with Nate's wit, strength, character and steadfast friendship," the message said. "They gave him the Acholi name 'Oteka,' which means 'The Strong One.' Some of them were with him at the time of the attack."
The Somali militant group al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the bombings at the rugby club and an Ethiopian restaurant in Uganda's capital of Kampala, the first time that the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab has attacked sites outside Somalia. Source
Let us also keep the injured, including American Emily Kerstetter, 16, as well as the deceased and their families in our thoughts and prayers. Terrorism is alive and shows no signs of abating in the near future.
