Maria Elvia Ross, Dallas County sheriff's jail guard arrested on the job for being an illegal immigrant.

Maria Elvia Ross, a Dallas County sheriff's jail guard was arrested on the job this morning by federal immigration officers for being in the country illegally and faces deportation, according to the Dallas News. Ms. Ross was reportedly hired in 2001 and has served on Sheriff Lupe Valdez’s quality assurance team that oversees improvements to sanitation in the jails.

Either Ms. Ross is really nervy or she is just plain dumb to apply for a federal job being in the country illegally. According to the Dallas News, her immigration status was discovered when she underwent a background check after recently applying to be a sheriff's deputy. Here's what I don't get, if she is married to sheriff's deputy David Ross, didn't he know she was an illegal immigrant and sought to file for her to become a permanent resident?
