Town of Combine, TX, Fires 11 Out of 13 Police Officers Due to Budget Woes, Reorganization

Town of Combine, TX, fires 11 out of 13 police officers due to a reorganization and budgetary woes.

SHOCK: The town of Combine, Texas, has fired 11 out of 13 police officers during a council meeting last Saturday. The vote was 5-0 and the council cited a department reorganization and lack of funds. Gee, I wonder what other city services they cut first, before firing nearly all their police officers.

What's equally crazy is that the Mayor pro tem, Tonya Ratcliff, could not provide specific details on how much money the city would save by cutting the police department so drastically. If I were the other two officers, I would also quit and let the city council protect the residents of Combine. It also seems like Ms. Ratcliff had problems explaining why the cuts were made.

“The town needs a police department that they can depend on and trust, and that’s what were working towards,” Ratcliff told reporters after the meeting. “So, you said the officers did nothing wrong, but now you're saying they are someone you can not trust?” one reporter asked. “No,” Ratcliff responded, “there is two different sets of police officers that we are talking about." “So the ones that were let go you said they didn’t do anything wrong,” the reporter continued. Ratcliff remarked quickly, “I said the reserve force. Thank you, that’s all I have.” She abruptly ended the question and answer session and walked away from the reporters. Source: NBC News
So, now the Kaufman County Sheriff's police Office will now patrol the city and Combine is currently searching for a police chief.
