Bush Appointee Abigail Thernstrom Says Right Wing Uproar Over Black Panther, "Fantasies"

Abigail Thernstrom, a Bush administration civil rights appointee, says right-wing uproar over Justice Dept. pro-black bias against New Black Panther Party election-day intimidation case, a "fantasy."

Abigail Thernstrom, a Bush administration civil rights appointee said the conservative uproar over allegations that the Justice Department, headed by Eric Holder, a black man, is protecting the New Black Panther Party from voter-intimidation prosecution is a "fantasy" designed to cause the ouster of Holder and harm the Obama administration. Say what? A Bush appointee saying that? Wow.

"This doesn’t have to do with the Black Panthers; this has to do with their fantasies about how they could use this issue to topple the [Obama] administration,” Abigail Thernstrom, former vice chairwoman of the US Commission on Civil Rights, told Politico.

“My fellow conservatives on the commission had this wild notion they could bring Eric Holder down and really damage the president,” Thernstrom said.
Sorry, but I don't buy the notion that Eric Holder and the Justice Department are playing race bias in this case. It is simply not true and the right wing, including wingnuts like Michelle Malkin have sprinted with the story like Usain Bolt in an attempt to literally tar President Obama and Eric Holder. It speaks volumes that Ms. Thernstrom would take this position because, according to Crooks & Liars, she has been known for her socially conservative views, including opposition to affirmative action.
