Chicago Police Officer, Thor Soderberg, Shot & Killed with Own Gun After 24-Year-Old Man Disarms and Shoots Him on South Side

Chicago Police Officer Thor Soderberg, 43, shot and killed by own gun, as suspect disarms and shoots him in parking lot of Englewood neighborhood.

It is with great sadness that I have to report that another police officer has died in the line of duty. A Chicago police officer, Thor Soderberg, was shot and killed when a man grabbed his gun and shot him outside a police building in the Englewood neighborhood, according to the Chicago Sun Times. The officer had just left working a detail dedicated to addressing youth violence when he was shot in a parking lot, where he struggled with a 24 year old man, who disarmed and shot him, Assistant Supt. James Jackson said in a media interview. Why am I not surprised that the suspect is a convicted felon? What a POS.
The man then tried to rob someone at gunpoint a short distance away, Jackson said. Officers from the facility heard shots and exchanged gunfire with the suspect and shot him, Jackson said.  Preliminary reports say the officer was shot in the head. The suspect was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where a group of uniformed and plainclothes officers stood outside the entrance of the emergency room this evening. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Officer Soderberg's family. According to the Chicago Tribune, he was 43 and was an 11-year veteran of the force. Too many evil people are freely roaming our streets hellbent on inflicting pain in the lives of innocent people. I hope the suspect will survive his injuries so that he can be brought to justice for this unspeakable act of violence.
