Three elementary school teachers in hot water over giving students portraits of O.J. Simpson, RuPaul & Dennis Rodman to carry in Black History Month parade.
Some people just took Black History Month to another level. Three white male teachers at Los Angeles'Wadsworth Avenue Elementary School are in hot water for giving children portraits of O.J. Simpson, Dennis Rodman and RuPaul to carry in a Black History Month parade, according to the NY Daily News. The portraits have since been removed from their classrooms. Gee, I didn't realize we had a shortage of "real" leaders and stalwarts in the black community that these teachers had to grovel to find positive black role models. Seems to me that this was a terrible joke or an unprecedented level of ignorance at our expense. This was meant to be used as a mockery of our history. The incident occurred Friday at the school in South Los Angeles, where the student body is more than 90 percent Latino. The teachers, who reportedly teach first, second and fourth grades have been placed on administrative leave on Tuesday while an investigation is conducted, a spokesman for the school district said.
Let's take a closer look at the three "luminaries" these teachers chose. O.J. Simpson is serving a nine-year prison sentence for robbery and kidnapping. He was acquitted in 1995 of murdering his ex-wife and her friend. RuPaul is a drag queen performer, who has his own reality show and Dennis Rodman, a former basketball star, has gained notoriety for despicable behavior, both on and off the basketball court.
