Redding Radio Show Host Ray Roberts Under Fire for "Presidential Fried Chicken" Comment

Ray Roberts, Redding radio show host under fire over comments made on air about "fried chicken and throwing bones over their shoulders" in the White House.

Patricia Sansom, the president of the Shasta County-Redding branch of the NAACP has expressed outrage at comments made Thursday by KQMS radio show personality Ray Roberts. He said, "Ronald Reagan wouldn't go into the Oval Office without wearing a coat and tie," he said during his morning talk show. "Now we have people going in there and eating fried chicken and throwing the bones over their shoulder."
Roberts, who denied that his comments were racist, said Thursday that he was not speaking about President Barack Obama when he complained on air about what he perceived as a degradation of respect for the Oval Office.

Roberts, who bristled at the suggestion his comment could be taken as a racial slur, said he never mentioned Obama in his talk. In fact, he said, he was speaking about former President Jimmy Carter, who served as president before Reagan. "He (Carter) made a big joke about it" eating chicken in the Oval Office, said Roberts. "Nobody said anything about Obama."  Source: Record Searchlight
Funny, he didn't utter Jimmy Carter's name during his comments, so couldn't we make the argument that he was just trying to deflect the fact that those comments were meant to denigrate President Barack Obama? The fact is, those comments can be considered offensive, whether or not he meant it in a malicious way.
