Republican Member of Congress Calls Rep. Bart Stupak a "Baby Killer" in a Joe Wilson Moment During Health Care Debate

Republican member of Congress calls Rep. Bart Stupak a "baby killer" as he rose to speak against his abortion amendment during health care debate.

We had a Joe Wilson moment in the Congress tonight and that was clearly a breach of decorum. A Republican member of Congress called Rep. Bart Stupak a "baby killer." I am waiting to hear who the idiot who uttered such a hateful name. The Republicans, once again, prove that they have no class.

This crass behavior came as House Republicans, in an effort to play games and derail the health care bill, introduced a "motion to recommit," which would have introduced the abortion amendment co-sponsored by Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) and Rep. Joseph Pitts (R-TN). Stupak, who is pro-life, rose to speak against the amendment saying that it was nothing more than an effort to deprive 32 million Americans of health insurance. Democrats rose to applaud Stupak, while several Republicans shouted "it's your bill." There was still more to come, when a crass and offensive display erupted from a Republican. There is no reason why lawmakers should be subjected to this level of harassment.

There was a time when I considered switching to the Republican Party, but I changed my mind after all the ugly words coming from fringe members of the party. I have never heard so much racist rhetoric coming from any party, as I have heard from the GOP. Yesterday, Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) was called a nigger by some Tea Party demonstrators on Capitol Hill because he supported health care reform. The Republican Party will be taken seriously when it can rein in these loose cannons and it doesn't help that its legislators are pushing this vile garbage as well.

UPDATE#1: Rumor has it that the culprit was Rep. Radanovich (R-CA). We are still trying to verify that.

UPDATE#2: Luke Russert is reporting that the rumor mill now has "baby killer" being said by a GOP member of the Texas delegation.

UPDATE#3:  Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) apologized for uttering such a vile comment.
