Florida International University running back Kendally Berry was stabbed to death on the school's Miami campus late Thursday evening. The university president, Mark B. Rosenberg, said in a video message that officials “will not rest” until his attacker is found.According to media reports, Berry was stabbed late Thursday night, after the 22-year-old junior from Haines City, Fla., got involved in an altercation with another man outside the front doors of the school’s student recreation center, which is one of the spots where the football team trains. Miami-Dade Police Detective Javier Baez said several witnesses to the incident were being interviewed.
Baez said Berry died on the way to a hospital, He also said that he did not know if Berry and his attacker knew each other. A person was reportedly “detained and questioned” but was released and “is not a currently a suspect,” Detective Aida Fina-Milian said Friday morning.
This shocking tragedy has led to the postponement of spring football practices. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the deceased.
UPDATE#1: Police said 22-year-old Quentin Rashad Wyche turned himself in. They said Wyche would be charged with second-degree murder and held without bond. What a shame. Black on black crime.
