Sharif Mobley, African American, Allegedly an al-Qaeda Member, in Shoot-out at Yemeni Hospital

Sharif Mobley, an African American and alleged al-Qaida member, in shoot-out in Yemeni hospital. FBI launches an investigation.

The FBI has launched an investigation of an alleged al-Qaida member, Sharif Mobley, who is accused of trying to shoot his way out of Republican Hospital in San'a, Yemen. According to the NY Daily News, Mobley, who grew up in Buena, NJ, has been accused of shooting two guards last weekend in the hospital where he was being held prisoner. His father, Charles Mobley, maintains that his son isn't a terrorist, but it seems really strange that he would make his way to Yemen of all places. One has to ask why was he there?
He was originally arrested as part of an earlier sweep against al-Qaida, according to other security officials, and was in prison on charges of membership of the group. He complained of being ill and was admitted to the hospital, where was held under heavy guard while he was treated for around a week until his escape attempt, said a member of the security forces.

Officials say he snatched a gun from one security guard and shot him, then made his way down from his fifth-floor room to the ground floor. Witnesses say he then got into a shootout with hospital security guards, who pinned him down until a unit of the anti-terrorism police apprehended him. Mobley, a Muslim, reportedly traveled to Yemen in 2009 and was detained sometime between late January and March during an intelligence raid. The news reports first classified him as a Somali-American, which I seriously doubt is the case, given his father's name. His mother said her son "is an excellent person who's never been in trouble and is a good Muslim." If he was rotten to the core and a terrorist, would she really admit that? I scarcely believe she would. This will be a very interesting case in the war on terror.
