Thomas Hagan, Arrested in the Assassination of Malcolm X, Set to be Released from Prison on April 28

Thomas Hagan, imprisoned for his involvement in the assassination of Malcolm X, set to be released from prison on April 28.

Thomas Hagan, the only man ever to admit involvement in the assassination of Malcolm X, is set to be released from prison on April 28th. He was reportedly granted release during at his parole hearing on March 3rd. Hagan has been incarcerated at the Lincoln Correctional Facility in New York City, for two days a wekk for 22 years. According to media reports, the other five days, he's been allowed to work and live with his family.
Hagan, then known as Talmadge X. Hayer, was sentenced to 20 years to life in April 1966 on a first-degree murder charge. Muhammad Abdul Aziz, then known as Norman 3X Butler, and Kahlil Islam, then known as Thomas 15X Johnson, were also convicted of the crime, but they maintained their innocence and were subsequently paroled about 20 years ago.

Hagan was shot in the legs by one of Malcolm X's bodyguards after his untimely death. Hagen was almost beaten to death by the crowd at the Audobon Hall in New York City. He was subsequently saved by police officers who arrested him. Court papers reportedly state he "confessed to having fired shots into Malcolm's body."
