Jessica Canfield Dumps Newborn Baby in Trashcan and Returns to Party

Jessie Canfield dumps newborn baby girl in trash can and returns to party as though nothing happened. Says she didn't know she was pregnant.

SHOCK: Jessica Canfield, 24, was arrested on Wednesday after it was discovered that she dumped her newborn baby in a trash can. She was reportedly attending a surprise birthday party with family and friends when she began feeling cramping. She ducked in a bedroom for several hours. Partygoers told the police she did not tell them she gave birth to a six-pound baby girl. She went right back to the party as though nothing happened. How is that possible? You are bleeding and in no shape to resume life as usual within hours of giving birth. Besides, since she was in the bedroom, weren't there signs that a childbirth had taken place?

According to the Associated Press, Lt. Joe Hoffman said she was arrested hours after trash collectors found a newborn dead in an overstuffed bin outside the Redondo Beach home where the party was held. "She's saying that she didn't know" she was having a baby, and she appeared "distraught over a tragic situation," Hoffman said.

Redondo Beach investigators found her in Santa Barbara and took her to an emergency room for an examination and treatment before booking her for investigation of murder at Los Angeles County Jail. Why this woman didn't take this baby to a hospital or safe haven location is beyond me. According to media reports, the baby was found in a trash can in close proximity to a fire station where she could have dropped parents to give up their babies without fear of prosecution at fire stations, hospitals and other locations. California is one of at least 46 states with such a law.
