Americans Lesley Enriquez, Husband, Arthur Redfels, Shot & Killed in Drive-By Shooting in Mexico's Border Town Ciudad Juarez

Americans Lesley Enriquez and husband Arthur Redfels, shot and killed in drive-by shooting by gunmen who intercepted their car on Ciudad Juarez street.

Three people connected to the U.S. Consulate in Mexico's Ciudad Juarez, were shot and killed by men who intercepted their cars as they returned from a birthday party. Two of the dead were Lesley A. Enriquez, 35, an employee of the consulate and her husband, Arthur H. Redfelfs, 34, a detention officer with El Paso County Jail.  The third person, identified as Jorge Alberto Salcido, 37, the husband of a Mexican employee of the consulate, was also killed. He was reportedly traveling in a separate vehicle with his two children, who were injured in the gun violence. President Obama said that he was outraged about this senseless act. Doesn't this speak to the urgency of protecting our borders and having zero tolerance for those who try to sneak across the borders? It seems rather damning, in my opinion, that since we can't take care of the criminals in the border towns of Mexico, how in the world can we ever win the "war on terror" we are waging in Iraq and Afghanistan?

These gangs in Mexico's border towns are wreaking havoc on residents on both sides of the fence. This heinous crime occurred in broad daylight on Sunday. Ciudad Juarez is known as the key entry point for drugs into the United States. The bloodshed has increased as narcotics gangs battle for control of smuggling routes and market share. Mexico's drug war has claimed thousands of lives, but this is the first time I can recall these drug traffickers targeting diplomatic personnel working for the American government, as well as their families.

The response from the State Department is that employees working in consulates in six northern Mexican cities, could send their families and other dependents home to the United States. It also updated travel warnings for Americans traveling to or within northern Mexican states and strongly cautioned American young people about visiting the country for spring break. It's high time we boycotted Mexico on all fronts.
