Former CBS anchor Dan Rather says, though articulate, President Obama "couldn't even sell watermelons," in dig against the massive health care reform he is touting.
Dan Rather ventured in a what can be considered as a racial landmine last weekend during his appearance on the Chris Matthews Show. Rather, the former CBS anchor, gave his two cents on President Obama's ability to put pressure on the Congress to pass the massive health care reform, despite little participation by the Republicans.
DAN RATHER: Part of the undertow in the coming election is going to be President Obama's leadership. And the Republicans will make a case and a lot of independents will buy this argument. "Listen he just hasn't been, look at the health care bill. It was his number one priority. It took him forever to get it through and he had to compromise it to death." And a version of, "Listen he's a nice person, he's very articulate" this is what's been used against him, "but he couldn't sell watermelons even if you gave him the state troopers to flag down the traffic."Maybe Dan Rather didn't mean to make such inflammatory statements, but the reality is he did. It is safe to say had a conservative uttered those words, all hell would break loose and the so-called civil rights leaders literally call for him to be fired from his gig on HDNet. I am really surprised this hasn't sparked more outrage in the black community.
Sorry, Dan Rather, but I think you have crossed the line. He knew exactly what he was saying. Again, had this been a Republican who uttered those words, all hell would break loose. I am so disappointed with the Democratic Party that I now consider myself an Independent. Can't bring myself to switch to the Republican Party.
