Mike Jacobs punched Republican counterpart
Kyle McCarter on the senate floor after a heated debate spun out of control Tuesday evening. Fellow senators intervened and pulled the pair apart. Why were these two fools arguing? According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, a heated argument erupted over compensation for injured workers and an approved utility rate hike after McCarter accused Jacobs of a conflict of interest.
The altercation took place during a lull in the long final day of the legislative session Tuesday, with no reporters around to witness it. Rumors later started drifting around around Capitol—amid the flurry of workers compensation debate and other issues—that Sen. Mike Jacobs, D-East Moline, had punched Sen. Kyle McCarter, R-Highland, after McCarter had accused Jacobs of a conflict of interest regarding the utility rate-hike bill.
"I called attention to the process" by which the rate hike was approved, McCarter said later in a written statement. He noted that Jacob's father, former Sen. Denny Jacobs, is a lobbyist for the utility industry, and that Mike Jacobs is chairman of the Senate Energy Committee and a key supporter of the utility-backed bill. Source
I hate to see grown men acting like spoiled brats. This thuggery should have no place in the peoples' state house. McCarter has reportedly filed a police report about the incident. One thing I know is when you start talking about somebody's mother or father, tempers flare and you're entering dangerous territory. Imagine if a black state senator punched another or there were two black state senators arguing? The mainstream media would be all over the story.
