Bishop Eddie Long says favor will make your enemies, who dug a hole for you, get in the same hole, a little prophetic?
Liveblogging New Birth Missionary Baptist Church services: Bishop Long's son is speaking asking the congregation if we aren't lucky to have a good father pushing "us along." Bishop Long is calling all fathers to the altar, including those men whose wives are pregnant. He said it is a wonderful time to celebrate fatherhood. He said sometimes fathers get a bad rap because they are ultimately in charge. He said if anything goes wrong, the buck stops here, with fathers. He said when Adam & Eve were disobedient, God held Adam responsible. To make sure that the home and children were in order. There is a great burden upon the shoulder of men. He says he wants to be everything God has ordained men to be.I wish someone would tell Bishop Long that he needs to stop wearing that ridiculous wig. He looks like a fool. He said offering time is the time to honor God and moved in the things he has ordained for us. He is back on the anointing trip. Says those who missed the service last week to come after service for their "anointing."
New Birth Birmingham video is being shown. This man is always talking about money. Why does Rev. Stephen Davis look like a con man standing on the corner of 125th Street in Harlem, NYC? Another hustler in the pimpdom. Long is hawking a CD from last Wednesday's prayer service.
The text for the sermon is taken from Psalm 78: 5 - For he established a testimony in Jacob......the children who would be born would arise and declare them to their children and set their hope in God....keep his commandment and not be like their fathers a stubborn & rebellious generation. Er, isn't he talking about himself? Hah. He's talking about a generational testimony and said this is important as "we move to prosperity." He said young men are so angry today because they are not getting instructions from a father. Something inside them is erupting them causing them to go out of bounds. They are looking at the worldly stuff as the way to success. He said godly men and women gave their lives so they could stand.
Steve Forbes came in to the church when they were at Snapfinger Road. He said he talked about his grandfather and then said he was born rich. Long said he wants young men to say they were born rich, not just money. Heritage with God.
My Mind's Made Up -- Most people don't get what they want because they don't know what they want. If we don't have a focus on what you want, you don't know what you need. Life is running you, you are not running life. You haven't reprogrammed yourself. It's all your subconscious mind moving you. Make your mind up about things and say no turning back. There has to be a knowledge of success and a wealth of wisdom and knowledge passed down from generation to generation to help them walk in their greatness. God is strategic. He has precepts and concepts. A way that guides us to be successful. The greatest problem most of us have is not being committed. You kill everything if you are not committed. You must commit yourself to the actions that maintain the feelings, you go back to where you are.
Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego did not get favor until they got in the fire. God's favor never shows up until you show up. He said some of us are afraid to get in the fire. He said even if your enemies are trying to throw you in the fire, that's when favor shows up. He didn't give you favor when you are going to the mall. He gives you favor when death stares in the eye. "Favor will make your enemies, who dug a hole for you, get in the whole they dug for you. " 80 percent of the population live on Someday Island. Some day I am going to be great. Some day I am going to be on the cover of the Rolling Stone. The first rule for self is that he is going to give a testimony to his children about what he has gone through -- commitment. He said "if it's meant to be, it's up to me." Self discipline helps you to pay the price and get off Someday Island.
He said God sent him to ask congregation to make a decision. Offering time again. He said this check is more important than any checks they have ever written. Told a ridiculous story about a pig and a hen to make breakfast for the master. The pig has to die to make the ham, the hen has to simply lay an egg. Commitment. He said we are not on this 250 acres of property to do what we are doing just to get here. He said Jim Crow laws, etc. helped New Birth get here. They're standing on their shoulders. He said "we don't have those kind of saints." "No we have church goers who want a peaceful church. No controversy." Luke 14:28-20 - "Which one of you intending to build a tower does not sit down first and count the cost. Whether he has enough to finish it...This man began to build and was not able to finish."Children don't do what you tell them. They do what they see you do, Long said. Mature saints have to allow their spirits to rule their souls. Er, shouldn't he be taking his own message seriously?
He made reference to his wife, Vanessa, as they were getting ready to collect the offering. Does that mean all is well at home? Certainly not. This could all be a part of a game they are playing to hide the truth about their marital woes to the congregation.
Be committed and when you get in the fire, whether it is through sickness, etc., God will show you favor. He said you have to wake up with a goal, not just praying. Saying you decide and make a commitment. He said the church has a gym with a chiropractor in it. He said all his children as soon as they could walk, had to run with him. He said God says when you are committed He will put you in contact with the right people and make things happen. I've got a discipline and giving children something to build from. He said, "I won't quit because I have seen my Daddy go through stuff." He said his father always made a way because he kept moving. There were no fireworks today and his message was basically good and on point, but consider the messenger.....
