Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) says President Barack Obama becoming an "absolute monarch" over his decision to authorize military action in Libya, calling on Congress to limit funding on operation.
President Obama a monarch? Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) warned that President Barack Obama is becoming an "absolute monarch" on matters related who has authority to start a war. Yeah, the Democrats are abandoning Obama in droves over his decision to engage in a third war - Libya. Nadler said Congress must act to limit funding for military operations in Libya in order to correct that trend."We have been sliding for 70 years to a situation where Congress has nothing to do with the decision about whether to go to war or not, and the president is becoming an absolute monarch," Nadler said on the floor. "And we must put a stop to that right now, if we don't want to become an empire instead of a republic. SourceI agree that this wasn't President Obama's decision to make on his own accord, but I'm sure he consulted our military leaders first. This is the fastest I have ever seen Congress move forward to get anything done. Why can't we have the same fervor and commitment to issues that directly affect the people on Main Street grappling with high unemployment and foreclosure rates?
UPDATE#1: The House rejected a bill that would have cut off funding for U.S. military intervention in Libya on a 180-238 vote.
