Police Probe Attacks Outside Iowa Fairgrounds After "Beat Whitey Night" Comments Heard

Des Moines police launch investigation into series of attacks outside fairgrounds after "beat whitey night" comments heard.

Des Moines police are investigating a series of attacks outside the Iowa State Fairgrounds last weekend that included the assault of two police officers, the Des Moines Register said. Three people were arrested Friday through early Monday morning, officials said. The attacks have a racial undertone, as Sgt. David Murillo said in a report Friday night, "on-duty officers at the fairgrounds advise there was a group of 30 to 40 individuals roaming the fairgrounds openly calling it beat whitey night." The fight reportedly involved mainly teenagers and young adults.
