Erykah Badu's tardiness at arriving on-stage at Atlanta's Chastain Park leads to sound-cut and boos at singer by angry fans.
Singer Erykah Badu had a rude awakening at Atlanta's Chastain Park when she showed up late for her performance. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Badu didn't take the stage until 9:50 p.m. Saturday night. She was terribly late. What she didn't realize is that Chastain Park is known for being strict about performance times. Well, an hour after neo-soul singer Bilal left the stage, Badu's band sauntered on stage. Then she showed up to perform. I hate to be late because it takes me out of my element and basically ruins my day. It is rude that she is notoriously late and doesn't seem to care. The management at Chastain Park had other things in mind for Ms. Badu. She sang for an hour and 10 minutes and then the sound was gone. According to the AJC, a startled Badu started checking her microphone, before realizing that she had been cut off for the night. That reportedly occurred after all 11:01 p.m. Smack-down and rightly so.
Moral of the story -- your diva ways will backfire in many venues. Erykah Badu is notoriously late for performances and that is a slap in the faces of all her fans. The least she can do is show up early to a concert for which many of her fans, are struggling to make ends meet. This isn't fair to her fans in the least, who spent more time warming their seats at Chastain Park and other venues, than actually watching her performance. The reality is that Erykah Badu and other performers who are chronically late are selling their fans short and taking them for granted.
