Gun Violence Continues in Chester, Pa., as One Man Shot & Killed After Mayor's Final Anti-Violence Night Out

Gun violence continues in Chester, Pa., as one person shot & killed hours after Mayor Wendell Butler's 10th & final Anti-Violence Night Out.

Chester city Mayor Wendell N. Butler Jr.’s 10th final Anti-Violence Night Out Thursday. It is ironic that gun shots rang out killing one man and wounding another another. According to the Delco Times, the incident occurred in the rear of the 200 block of West Elkinton Avenue, about 9:50 p.m. Police had a report of a black male running from the scene with a handgun.

Throughout the summer, Butler toured the city, traveling to 10 sites the city deemed “hotspots for crime,” pleading with residents to come forward with information that could help police solve the homicides that have jolted the city. Source
It seems that gun violence is no stranger to Chester. Just recently, Mayor Butler held the Guns for Goods program that saw hundreds of guns being taken off the streets of Chester. Of course, there was the added incentive of receiving a $100 ShopRite gift card in return. The program was implemented to help curb the violence in Chester after a recently-lifted state of emergency. It does seem that despite these two initiatives, the gun violence in Chester continues. According to media reports, two people were murdered during the state of emergency. Others have been shot and killed since it has been lifted.
