Police restore order after fights, chaos erupt in subsidized housing line in East Point, Ga.

I couldn't figure out if this was downtown Atlanta or a city in a Third World country when I saw the stress and chaos in East Point Wednesday morning that got the better of a crowd who had been waiting for days to get an application for subsidized housing.

According to Channel 2 Action News, thousands of people were lined up at the Tri-Cities Plaza to get an application, but many fights broke out as people started cutting in line. East Point police officers had to restore order and return people to the line. This is a disgrace and I am appalled at the behavior, but not surprised by the level of desperation some people are feeling. Many people, including me, are fed up with the politicians in Washington D. C. and I am taken aback by the arrogance of some of these politicians such as Rep. Charlie Rangel, who stole the thunder of the Democrats over the signing of the billion-dollar jobs bill, by grandstanding and refusing to resign from office after being charged with 13 ethics violations.

People are losing their jobs and their homes, what is the government and President Obama doing to help the people on Main Street who are hurting. Many of the people in line at Tri-Cities Plaza had reportedly camped out for 72 hours, just to get an application. They will have to apply for housing at a different location.
