Black Teacher Aijalon Gomes Released from North Korean Prison after Former Pres. Jimmy Carter Flew on Private Mission

Black teacher, Aijalon Gomes released from North Korean prison, after former President Jimmy Carter visited Pyongyang on private mission on his behalf.

Thanks for former President Jimmy Carter, black teacher Aijalon Gomes is a free man. He and Carter boarded a plane for Boston Friday seven months after his arrest in North Korea.

Carter flew to the North Korean capital, Pyongyang, this week on a private mission to secure a pardon for the 31-year-old American, who was detained in January after crossing into the country from China.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Il granted Carter’s request to “leniently forgive” Gomes, the official Korean Central News Agency reported, and Carter and Gomes were due back in Boston later Friday for a reunion with his mother, Carter’s spokeswoman Deanna Congileo said in Atlanta. Source
I wish Mr. Gomes all the best and I am thankful that he has been released from one of the worst countries in the world to be incarcerated. Gomes is the fourth American in a year to be held in North Korea.
