Hani Hennein, Prominent Chicago Heart Surgeon, Commits Suicide After Critically Wounding Estranged Wife

Prominent Chicago heart surgeon, Dr. Hani Hennein, commits suicide after critically wounding estranged wife, Julia Hennein.

Dr. Hani Hennein, a prominent pediatric heart surgeon in Illinois, shot and critically wounded his estranged wife, Julia Hennein, near their Elmhurst home early Friday morning. According to the Chicago Sun Times, Julia Hennein was shot barely a month after she filed for divorce and sought an order of protection against Dr. Hennein, 52, who has since committed suicide.

It is reprehensible that Dr. Hennein has so little regard for his wife and even much less for their two youngest children, who were reportedly in the home at the time of the shootings. Mrs. Hennein, also 52, was being treated for her wound at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

She had filed for divorce on June 1, alleging in court documents that her husband was “mentally and physically abusive” to her and to their two youngest daughters, who are 16 and 14.

That divorce filing came only three days after Dr. Hennein was arrested for misdemeanor battery for allegedly striking his 16-year-old daughter twice in the head with his hand. Source

Domestic violence knows no socio-economic levels, race or creed. It is literally color-blind. Dr. Hennein played such an integral role in the medical community and literally saved lives of children stricken with heart problems, but he seemed to have put his family through a living nightmare. The sad thing is that he will not be remembered for the good he did in the medical community. He will be remembered as an abuser of his wife and kids. Shameful.
