Designer Douglas Hannant, who has dressed Charlize Theron, Beyoncé and Sarah Jessica Parker, took a potshot at First Lady Michelle Obama. He said, "everyone compares her to Jackie O -- she is not the next Jackie O." He made these comments during an interview with Tobi Rubinstein Schneier during her House of Faith & Fashion discussion at the Plaza's Caudalie Spa. We all know the intent of his comments was to be meanspirited, as though she could never measure up to Jackie O.
Hannant's collection is available at Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and other fine boutiques. I am pretty sure he wouldn't badmouth Mrs. Obama if she wore one of his dresses. He would be singing another tune. Sorry, but Mrs. Obama is her own person and has her own style. She's no Jackie O, nor Laura Bush, no Hillary Clinton, no Barbara Bush, no Eleanor Roosevelt. I don't think her desire is to be the next Jackie O. If the truth be told, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was very overrated.
