Is HP's facial recognition software "racist?" Desi Cryer, a black man, seems to think so and made a YouTube video to back up his claims.
Is HP's facial recognition software racist? Well, according to Desi Cryer, who is black, seems to think so. He was at work in a retail store with a fellow employee who is white when the two recorded a test of the facial recognition software on a new HP computer and posted the result on YouTube. The video purportedly shows that the company's facial recognition software tracking the movements of a white face, but not a black one, something Cryer call "racist," but HP begs to differ.
“Everything we do is focused on ensuring that we provide a high-quality experience for all our customers who are ethnically diverse and live and work around the world," an HP blog. "That’s why when issues surface, we take them seriously and work hard to understand the root causes."
