New York City holds Condom Design Contest, Entries Due Jan. 22, 2010

I thought I have heard it all. New York City's health department is inviting the public to submit their suggestions for a special limited-edition condom design in an effort to increase condom use.

According to the NY Post, the winning art will be featured on several hundred thousand official condom wrappers. For those of you who may be interested, the entries are due January 22, 2010.

The NY Post also states that Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s administration now gives away more than 40 million condoms a year, up from three million in 2002. The health commissioner says officials want to “keep people excited” about condoms. Really? How about Mayor Bloomberg and his team putting the same emphasis on improving the educational standards of its public schools and helping students improve their Math scores? Throw in job creation and curbing the excess on Wall Street in the mix as well.
