Cecilia Casas, 16, dies after stepping in front of a Jeep on Hollywood Freeway.

Cecilia Casas, 16, of North Hollywood, died early Sunday morning after stepping in front of a Jeep on the Hollywood Freeway in Los Angeles. Officers with the California Highway Patrol said Casas was walking on the shoulder on the northbound side on the freeway at Magnolia Boulevard, just after 1 a.m.

She reportedly stepped in front of a 2008 Jeep. CHP spokesman Francisco Villalobos said the driver of the vehicle was given a field sobriety test and passed.

According to the Daily News, investigators are now looking to see if another driver, who may have left Casas on the freeway to walk on the shoulder, was involved. Villalobos said they also are looking into whether her death was an accident of if she intended to kill herself.
