David E. Crable Shot & Killed After Ambushing Two Sheriff's Officers Who Respond to Domestic Violence Call in his Home Near Eatonville, Wa.

Two sheriff's officers, responding to a domestic violence call between David E. Crable and his brother, near Tanwax Lake, seven miles north of Eatonville in Washington, were ambushed by one of the brothers lying in wait with a gun after being welcomed in the home by the other. The gunman was killed and the officers were seriously wounded. This latest shooting is the third in three months in which police said a gunman has deliberately shot at law enforcement officers in Washington state. The names of the police officers have not been released.

David Crable, 35, shot the two officers before he was killed when they returned fire, Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer Troyer said.  The officers were greeted at the door by Crable's brother, while Crable was in the house arming himself, Troyer said. When the deputies entered the house, Crable opened fire from upstairs, hitting one of the officers multiple times.

"This is somebody that was laying in wait for our guys, armed themselves, with the intent on shooting them," Troyer told reporters near the shooting scene. "There's not much we're going to be able to do when somebody is hiding and arming themselves and we have somebody else inviting us into the residence and the second person opens fire on us."

Pierce County sheriff's records show Crable was convicted earlier this year of exhibiting or displaying a weapon with intent to intimidate. He also has been arrested for malicious mischief and assault and had a no-contact order by his 16-year-old daughter who lived with Crable's brother. Troyer said Crable had a history of "terrorizing" his family. Source: Fox News
This latest shooting comes three weeks after four police officers in Lakewood were shot and killed at Forza coffee shop as they prepared for their shifts. They were shot and killed by career criminal Maurice Clemmons, who was later killed by a police officer after a two-day manhunt.

UPDATE#1:  KOMO News is reporting that the deputy and the sergeant, who were shot by Crable, were flown to area hospitals. The deputy, who was taken to Harborview Medical Center, was shot multiple times and was listed in critical condition. The sergeant, who had been shot once, was flown to Madigan Army Medical Center at Fort Lewis in serious condition.  Police spokesman Troyer said both of the wounded men are married, and that their family members were being notified.
