Blanche Matilda Roth, 88, Laid Dead in Bed for Up to Eight Months, Even Though "Caretakers" Visited the N.C. Home Daily

I am trying to figure out how in the world Blanche Matilda Roth, 88, could lay dead in her bed for up to eight months even though caretakers visited the house daily. The house is located in Wilmington, N.C., and Ms. Roth was found after a call to 911.  New Hanover County Deputy Charles Smith said she likely died in May.

One has to wonder who those caretakers were and if they didn't smell the decomposing body. Smith said these caretakers were not nurses. It is also important to note that failure to report a death is a felony in North Carolina and if there are people who knowingly didn't report this woman's death, then they'll be doing some prison time.

I am sure that law enforcement is investigating this case thoroughly and it would be interesting to see if someone was still collecting Social Security payments for this woman. If that's the case, then that would explain why her dead body laid in bed for eight months. That is just a shame. A lowdown dirty shame.

UPDATE#1:  Sheriff Ed McMahon's office has released a statement saying that Amy Blanche Stewart, 47, was charged with concealment of death, which is a Class I felony under North Carolina law. She was released from jail after posting a $1,000 secured bond and is scheduled to make her first appearance in District Court Thursday at 9 a.m. I am sure there will be additional charges once the investigation is complete. This woman had to have been collecting social security payments for her mother, since she never reported her as deceased.
