Police Officer Phillip Davis, Pelham, AL, Shot and Killed After Routine Traffic Stop, Bart Wayne Johnson Taken into Custody

Are our police officers under siege? Phillip Davis, 33, a Pelham, Alabama, police officer has been shot and killed after a routine traffic stop turned deadly early Friday morning. Bart Wayne Johnson is being held in connection with the shooting death. The I-65 expresseway is now reopened to traffic. Davis had worked for the Pelham Police Department for four and half years and worked for the Calera Police Department before working in Pelham. The Pelham Police Department's press release reads:
A preliminary investigation shows that the officer was shot during an 11:50 p.m. traffic stop on Interstate 65. Part of the incident was caught on video tape. Johnson left the scene and fled to the Inglenook area in east Birmingham, police said.

Later Johnson and his brother, a Trussville police officer who was not associated with the shooting, were taken into custody by the Hoover Police Department at 1:45 a.m. today. Source: Birmingham News
It is a sad turn of events for the family of this officer. Thankfully, the suspect is behind bars and not on the loose as Maurice Clemmons was in the aftermath of the worst police killings in Washington state. Pelham is located about 15-20 miles south of Birmingham.
