Elementary School Teacher Gets $175 Ticket for Disorderly Conduct for Cutting Off Lamya Cammon's Braid In Front Of Class

I have heard of some really crazy things, but this one ranks way up there. A Milwaukee teacher has been charged with disorderly conduct after she punished a first-grader, Lamya Cammon, by cutting her hair. The teacher reportedly cut one of the little girl's braids off after she wouldn't stop playing with them in class. Cammon is a first grade student at Congress Elementary. She told ABC's WISN that the teacher used a pair of classroom scissors to cut off one of the braids after she absent-mindedly kept playing with them.  Imagine the embarrassment this child felt after being publicly humiliated by her teacher, not to mention the laughter coming from her classmates.

A $175 fine was not enough to make amends to this child. Besides, why is the teacher's name such a big secret? What she did was done before her entire class. The teacher reportedly told the child's mother, when she was confronted, that she did it out of frustration. What about sending the child to the principal's office if you can't control her

The Milwaukee Public Schools District said it is going through the disciplinary process with the teacher, who remains in class, although Cammon has been moved to a different classroom by the principal. The case was referred to the district attorney's office by the Milwaukee police for possible physical or mental abuse of a child charges. The D.A. decided not to file criminal charges and the police issued the teacher a ticket for $175. The excuse that is coming from the Milwaukee Teachers Education Association's is just insulting. They state that stress is not unusual due to the budgetary constraints.  Really? It seems to me that this teacher was clearly in the wrong and there is no amount of stress that could push her to cut the child's braid. This is all so ridiculous. Gee, one has to wonder if this teacher found herself under extreme stress how would she react.
