Aydin Salek (South Pasadena High School)
He reportedly left with four friends who realized he wasn't breathing and took him to the South Pasadena home of another friend, hoping to resuscitate him. They contacted 911 when they were unable to help him. The teenager was pronounced dead at 12:13 a.m. Sunday.
According to police, the party, which was broken up by LA County sheriff's deputies, was advertised on Facebook and was hosted by an 18-year-old girl whose parents were not home. KTLA is reporting that the young lady had gotten in touch with party promoters who use Facebook to advertise parties. The police said that both the host of the party and the promoters may be subject to investigation.
I have to wonder why these kids didn't call 911 right away when they noticed he wasn't breathing and why weren't his parents notified as well. I have to also wonder why when he was taken to the home of his friend, weren't there adults in that home at that time? I don't know what the outcome for this man may have been if he had received medical attention sooner, but it seems that the starting point should have been calling 911 and not driving to another home to try to resuscitate him.
According to the school's website, Salek served as a writer for the school's newspaper, "The Tiger." He also served as President of the American Cancer Society Club and as the Commissioner of Internal Affairs. It's obvious this young man was a mover and a shaker. He has departed this life far too soon. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
