Darrell Gresham Jr., 18, Dies After Being Shot, Friends Dump Him at Hospital and Flee

Darrell Gresham, 18, was fatally shot in the chest Thursday night while he hung out with two friends in a car a few feet from his home in Brooklyn's Crown Heights community. According to the NY Daily News, a gunman walked up to the car and started firing, hitting Gresham in the chest. What happened in the aftermath was a total disgrace. Police said he was dumped by his friends in the emergency room at Interfaith Hospital and then they fled. By the time the doctors got to Gresham, he was dead.

Darrell Gresham Sr. is pleading with the friends his son was with before he was shot to come forward and give any information they might have about the gunman to the police. No suspect is in custody at this time. Darrell Gresham Jr., had an outstanding warrant for a minor offense but has no other criminal history.

The reality is that most friends would care enough to stick around with their injured friend until he got some medical attention. They fled for a reason and I would hope that the parents of this young man knew the friends he was hanging out with so that they can assist the police in finding them.
