Parents of 8 Y.O. Girl Cry Foul After Teacher Allegedly Removes Child From Class Over Hair Care Product

Only black student in advanced-placement class at Seattle elementary school removed after teacher claimed her hair product made him or her sick.

Well, it seems that it was the reason why an eight year old black girl was removed from her classroom at Seattle's Thurgood Marshall Elementary School because of the teacher's physical reaction to it, according to the Seattle Times. Charles Mudede, the child's father, said he had a lot of questions when his daughter, the only black student in the advanced-placement class, told him that the teacher made her leave the classroom because her hair made the teacher sick. The girl was moved to the hallway and then to another class.

Okay, if this is true, just think how embarrassed an eight-year old child would be? Why didn't the teacher just call the child's parents to let them know there was an issue with the product she used in her hair? This is just so ridiculous. How did the teacher and the school administrators know the hair product was actually what made the teacher sick before kicking the child out of the classroom with total disregard for her rights?

"The issue I had, and still hold," Mudede said, "is there should have been a little more cultural sensitivity in this issue."On Friday, the NAACP announced it would file a complaint about the situation with the U.S. Department of Education. The family has engaged an attorney and is trying to arrange a meeting with the district, which now says it is limited in what it can say because of the threat of a lawsuit. Source: Seattle Times

This incident sounds ridiculous on first glance, but I am interested in knowing more about the teacher, what his/her allergies are and how did they know that the girl's hair product was the culprit. Had the school displayed some level of sensitivity to the girl, then this matter would not have escalated to this level.
