Alvin Greene, unemployed black military veteran, stages major upset in Democratic SC primary, to face Republican Sen. Jim DeMint in November election.
Alvin Green & Sen. Jim DeMint (TPM)
Who is Alvin Greene? Well, he is an unemployed military veteran, who raised no funds and put up no campaign website. He shocked the leadership of the South Carolina Democratic Party and will now face Republican U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint in November. This is too funny! To be honest, he may make a good candidate because he knows exactly what people on Main Street are experiencing. Wrong. He's a bumbling idiot, in the vein, of Stepin Fetchit. He's is most definitely a plant by someone out to embarass the Democratic Party and they succeeded. Now, it's time for the Feds to launch an investigation and bring this minstrel show to an end. With nearly all precincts reporting, Alvin Greene, 32, commanded 59 percent of the vote against 41 percent for former four-term state lawmaker Vic Rawl, 64, who had raised about $186,000 and had to abruptly scrap a late-week fundraiser for the fall. State Democratic Party Chairwoman Carol Fowler said voters unfamiliar with either candidate may have voted alphabetically for Greene over Rawl. Source: ABC NewsI saw this moron on MSNBC last night and I laughed heartily. This is fodder for Saturday Night Live, too bad they are on hiatus. Sen. DeMint is laughing at this side show and I don't blame him. There are also more reports of shenanigans in South Carolina, we will follow up on that too. In the mean time, I hope the court asks Mr. Greene why he was reportedly appointed a public defender to represent him in felony case, but he was able to present a $10,000 to establish his candidacy.
UPDATE#1: Well, the love affair didn't last long. Seems that Mr. Greene has a pending felony case. Well, I suppose Jim DeMint has a big grin on his face! Here's an excerpt from the Washington Post:
The head of the South Carolina Democratic Party has asked Alvin Greene, the party's new nominee to challenge Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) in November, to withdraw from the race following revelations that Greene is facing a felony charge for allegedly showing obscene material to a University of South Carolina student. From party chair Carol Fowler's statement:
"Today I spoke with Alvin Greene, the presumptive Democratic nominee for the US Senate, and asked him to withdraw from the race. I did not do this lightly, as I believe strongly that the Democratic voters of this state have the right to select our nominee. But this new information about Mr. Greene has would certainly have affected the decisions of many of those voters," said Fowler.
