Religious right cries foul over Sixth Court of Appeals 2-1 ruling that Ten Commandments display in courts of McCreary and Pulaski is violates Constitution clause.
The religious right is at it again. This time, the Don Swarthout of
Christians Reviving America's Values is crying foul over the Sixth Court of Appeals 2-1 ruling that the purpose of the Ten Commandments display placed in the Courts of McCreary and Pulaski Counties is religious and it violated the Establishment Clause of the Constitution. Why do we need validation of our religious beliefs on the walls of our courts? It should be noted that Judge James L. Ryan recommended a rehearing with the full Sixth Circuit panel of judged.
Mathew Staver, Founder of Liberty Counsel and Dean of Liberty University Law School said, "The Ten Commandments are a part of the fabric of our country. They are as much at home in display about the foundations of law or as the stars and stripes are in the flag. The Founding Fathers would be outraged that we are even debating the constitutionality of the Ten Commandments."
Don Swarthout, President of Christians Reviving America's Values said, "These rulings against the Ten Commandments and against Christianity are nothing but ludicrous. Since when did we make the Federal Courts out to be the thought police? How can the Federal Courts say the thinking of our Founding Fathers was unconstitutional, when it was our Founding Fathers who thought out our Constitution before they wrote it?" They are also twisting the words of John Quincy Adams to fit their belief that the country should be blanketed with religious symbols. I am a Christian, but I don't have the right to force my beliefs on others. There is a big difference between witnessing to a non-Christian and forcing religious beliefs down the throats of many, as the religious right has set out to do. Here's an excerpt of their deliberate attempt to twist the words of John Quincy Adams to suit their narrow interpretation of the Bible:
Jesus said in Matthew 22:21, "Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are Gods. Jesus gave both Christianity and government validity in that sentence. Jesus was telling us, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which make up the principles of good civil government; and render unto God the things which make up the principles of Christianity. How would Don Swarthout and his group like to see portions of the Kor'an etched on the walls of government buildings? Aren't Muslims religious too? I don't need to see the Ten Commandments on the wall of a government building to remind me of the life I should lead as a Christian. What I find amazing is the hubris of a bunch of white men whose mission is to force their beliefs on all Americans to live life according to their narrow interpretation of the Bible.
