Georgia Congressman, Phil Gingrey, says BP should blow up ocean floor near leak to permanently seal the well.
We have so real idiots representing my home state of Georgia in Congress. Many of our representatives have been known to put their feet in their mouths. The latest comes from Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Marietta). Denis O'Hayer at WABE (90.1FM) posted two versions -- one long, one short -- of an interview with Gringrey in which he thinks BP should blow up the ocean floor where the crude has been leaking to permanently seal the leak. He said he has his suspicions that BP cut corners to sink that well.Rep. Gingrey had this to say:
“For the life of me, I can’t understand why BP couldn’t go into the ocean floor, maybe 10 feet lateral to the – around the periphery – drill a few holes and put a little ammonium nitrate, some dynamite, in those holes and detonate that dynamite and seal that leak. And seal it permanently. It is amazing at the level of ignorance coming from our elected officials in Washington D.C. on how to stop the leaking. It is quite obvious that BP lied in the early days as to the extent of this spill. The White House and Congress were slow to ascertain the gravity of this situation.
“And although I didn’t ask him that question yesterday — I think I had three minutes — if we get another bite at that apple, I’m going to ask that question, over and over again. What is going on here?
“I feel like, and I’ve had people advise me — people in my own district, by the way, who have a lot of experience in mining, say that this could be done.” h/t Political Insider
