Will the Obama Administration's Strategy to End Homelessness Fall Short as the Foreclosure Program?

Obama administration releases strategy to combat homelessness of veterans and families with young children.

The Obama administration has released a strategy to end homelessness. Er, if it's anything like its foreclosure program, then it safe to say that will amount to a waste of everyone's time. Excuse me for being cynical, but I am so disappointed in President Obama's performance thus far. The new homelessness plan would expand programs to secure housing for veterans and families with young children and build on efforts to help chronically homeless Americans.

Framed by 10 objectives, the new national strategy aims to end homelessness among veterans and the chronically homeless by 2015 and among children and families by 2020.

One project combines Section 8 housing vouchers with other anti-poverty assistance to help 6,000 families in communities with high concentrations of homeless families.

Another project couples vouchers with health and social services funded by Medicaid and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to assist 4,000 chronically homeless people in moving off the streets and out of shelters. Source: Arizona Republic
Here's another reason for those people who are career-welfare recipients to remain that way. I will not deny the fact that it is reprehensible for veterans, who have fought for their country, to live on the streets, but there are some able-bodied people who are on welfare for no other reason, but because they can. Where's the incentive to find gainful employment through training and job assistance programs? The government can't be the judge and jury in every aspect of our lives. Who is going to foot this bill? Taxpayers like you and I.
