Spirit Airlines Under Fire Over New Advertising Campaign that Pokes Fun at BP Gulf Oil Spill

No-frills carrier Spirit Airlines launches new ad campaign mocking BP Gulf oil spill disaster to sell more seats.

How tacky is it for Spirit Airlines air an advertisement mocking the BP Gulf oil spill disaster. The Florida-based no-frills airline has come under fire for its new advertising campaign, which appeared on its website, shows a photo of a bikini-clad woman smeared in suncream, with the advertisement reading: "Check out the oil on our beaches." The smear didn't end there. The woman holds a 'Best Protection' suncream with the first letters of each word highlighted.

Spirit Airlines, based in Fort Lauderdale, used the advertisement on its website to promote low fares to its coastal destinations in Florida, in addition to other hotspots such as Cancun in Mexico and San Juan in Puerto Rico.

Sorry, but it is just downright tacky for the airline to cash in on the disaster playing out before our eyes. This is the same airlines that was almost brought to its knees when its pilots went on strike recently. I am pretty sure they didn't welcome the negative public relations that the strike brought, nor did they appreciate being the butt of jokes.
