SHOCK: At least eight people are dead in a workplace shooting in Manchester at Hartford Distributors, according to the Baltimore Sun. The suspect has been identified as Omar Thornton, who is black. There is some confusion as to whether he killed himself or police shot him to death. He was an employee of the company and had reportedly complained of racism on the job. Earlier news reports had disclosed his name as Omar Thomas.The shooting occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. in the beer and wine distribution facility. According to media reports, as the time of the shooting, there were about 35 - 40 people in the office and warehouse. The company was just changing shifts.
Thornton, 34, was reportedly called in to be terminated. He was a driver for the company and had recently been hired by the company as a driver, had disciplinary issues lately. There are unconfirmed reports that he complained to his employers about racism on the job but they did nothing.
UPDATE#1: The name of the gunman has been changed from Omar Thomas to Omar Thornton. There are now reports that nine people are dead, including Thornton. A .223 caliber semiautomatic rifle was found. According to the Hartford Courant, two people were shot outside the building and five inside, the police said. There are also reports that Thornton had been suspected of stealing form the company.
