Chicago teen Ravontay Hutchins' arrested for possession of a stolen car and mother refuses to post bail for him, after chewing him out before the judge.
Kudos to Ravontay Hutchins' mother for standing up to her son during a court hearing after he was chewed out by a judge for stealing a pizza delivery guy's car. Hutchins, 17, and his 14 year old accomplice allegedly stole the 1996 Acura Integra after the driver left the keys in the ignition and the engine running outside Pompeii Saturday night, according to the
Chicago Sun Times.
At a hearing Sunday in Cook County Criminal Court, Hutchins' mother told Judge Peggy Chiampas that Hutchins' father was serving with the military in Iraq and that she'd done everything she could for the boy, who was "spoiled."
When Chiampas set Hutchins' bail at $25,000, his mother told the judge "I've got [the money to bail him out], but he's staying here, locked up!" and stormed from the courtroom. Source
The two teens were apprehended by two police officers who reportedly heard about the theft and quickly put out a description of the stolen car, which the delivery guy was following in another car, police said. We need more parents like this mother, who enough was enough. Ravontay Hutchins, like many teenagers engaging in criminal behavior, needs to learn the hard way. In addition to the felony charges for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, Hutchins reportedly also faces a misdemeanor battery charge and several traffic citations.
