According to the two officials, the woman had a phone conversation with an incarcerated man within a day of her encounter with Mr. Strauss-Kahn in which she discussed the possible benefits of pursuing the charges against him. That man, the investigators learned, had been arrested on charges of possessing 400 pounds of marijuana. He is among a number of individuals who made multiple cash deposits, totaling around $100,000, into the woman’s bank account over the last two years. The deposits were made in Arizona, Georgia, New York and Pennsylvania.
The investigators also learned that she was paying hundreds of dollars every month in phone charges to five companies. BREAKING: There is trouble brewing on the horizon in the Dominique Strauss-Kahn sexual assault of a West African Sofitel maid. It is being revealed that the maid has some serious credibility issues, so much so that the prosecutor contacted Strauss-Kahn's legal team earlier today. The word is that the issues are so troubling that even if Strauss-Kahn's DNA was found on the woman, the case may still be hard to prosecute and may end up being thrown out. It is very troubling what the perception will be of this maid and of true victims of sex assaults.

When he approached it, he smelled marijuana, he told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Thursday.Well, now we know where Jamal Parris' new found wealth is leading him, down a path to sure destruction. It will be interesting to hear how Bishop Long and his people will spin this story. It is interesting to note he told the officer he bought the BMW with "money from a settlement." It is painfully obvious that this young man needs help. The first order of business after this case was closed was some type of counseling which it seems he never received. Where are the people in his corner? They need to help him get his life in order. The gun charge alone could land him in prison for years and what good will that do? Sad, sad, sad situation.
Dubinsky searched the car and said he found 181 grams of marijuana, which is worth about $1,000 on the street. He said he also found 50 clear plastic baggies and a Taurus semiautomatic handgun. He said Parris also was carrying $1,250 in cash.
The gear was "indicative of a drug dealer," Dubinsky said. Parris was arrested and jailed. He was charged with two felony counts: possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm while committing a felony. He also was charged with operating a motor vehicle with no registration, a misdemeanor. It was unclear late Thursday whether he was still in custody. The car was seized, and passenger Jeremy Jouvanni Gordon, 20, of Miami was arrested on a drug paraphernalia charge. Source
10 REVOLUNTIONARY WAYS TO RE-THINK MARRIAGE: WAY #4: RE-THINK MARITAL SEX EXPECTATIONS
Raise your hand, especially you married folks, if you’d desire a strong sex life. Hands raised? I thought so, but there’s one critical question that will determine whether it is even possible – What does a strong sex life mean to your spouse?
Here is the dilemma – the church teaches that sex is for the confines of marriage, and rightly so considering many of the devastating facts and stats regarding premarital sex. Sex was created for and should be operant exclusively within marriage. The concern is that although the church teaches the proper message of abstinence before marriage–once married, how does that couple operate within it as it relates to sex? It will surely depend on what their individual thoughts are regarding sex before they said “I do.” “Missionary Position” may be all that’s needed for obtaining a strong sex life, but what if one spouse has images of activities more of an adventurous nature? Once or twice per week may be considered a strong sex life for one person, but what if their spouse’s interpretation of a strong sex life is once or twice per day?
Many Christian marriages are experiencing sexual frustration and the church has done little to nothing to address the issue. Married couples can’t be told what they should and should not do –The truth is, not much is taboo in marriage relating to sex between marital partners, however, problems arise when rules are created without conversation or consent.
For instance, Johnny has saved himself for his wedding day because he has followed the teachings of the church. Although he has followed the teachings and has abstained, he is aware of the possibilities of what can occur sexually in the marital bed. He then enters marriage with the thought – “I cannot wait for my wife to give me oral sex!”
Johnny is married to Sara; a very shy girl. Sara has been saving herself for her wedding day since she graduated college; she has had some sexual experiences in high school, however, not since then. On their wedding day, Sara just wants to lay there and allow Johnny to “handle his business.”
Neither Johnny nor Sara has ever had a conversation with the other about what sex would be like once married. Unaware of the other’s expectation, Johnny becomes frustrated that Sara will not do what he has imagined and Sara is uncomfortable with Johnny’s request, translating it as his lack of physical attraction to her.
This scenario can go on for months and even years – until one decides to intentionally communicate their sexual expectations to the other.
WHAT TO DO
As we re-think marriage I offer three challenges regarding marital sex expectations.
PRE-MARITAL SEXUAL EXPERIENCES
While in Marriage Education couples should be allowed to share, whether on paper or directly to their fiancee what their sexual experiences have been up-to-date. Giving each one the opportunity to share what sexual experiences they’ve had and enjoyed will set the platform for what each will expect to occur in marriage. Also, based upon this discussion, the two will have articulated what previous experiences they do not want to carry into marriage. This is important for the couple to clearly articulate; the raw expectations of the other before committing to the “I do’s.”
PRE-MARITAL SEXUAL NEGOTIATIONS
Once the couple has shared their past experiences and has articulated their desired future expectations– the couple can then agree or disagree on whether they will meet the other’s desired expectations. Negotiations and clear boundaries must be set during this period otherwise this too will prove a source of contention.
If the wife’s desired expectation is foreplay for a minimum of 20 minutes before intercourse – the husband needs to know this is her expectation. His willingness to agree or disagree with her expectation is necessary to ensure marital sexual communication and health.
POST MARITAL SEXUAL NEGOTIATIONS
Couples need to understand that sexual communication is necessary for a strong sexual experience. For this to occur, there are some suggestions regarding when and how to initiate these conversations.
One recommendation is that couples set a date, once per week, to discuss what worked or didn’t work during their last sexual experience. The idea of having this set as a date is to relax the two beforehand, as conversations like these can produce anxiety which often leads to arguments. Additionally, couples are more likely to not get verbally aggressive when in public with their spouse. Often times, if couples have established these types of conversations early in marriage – they become enjoyable moments even when being critiqued.
CONCLUSION
Married couples, especially Christian ones, need to cultivate better communication regarding issues relating to sex. Many affairs can be traced to the notion that, “If my wife/husband won’t do it, someone else will.” This happens but does not have to be your fate. Many frustrations can be circumvented if couples learn to properly communicate their private sexual desires with their spouse. This will, at least, eliminate the guess work out marital sex and ensures you’re a step closer to a healthier marriage.

How could the body of a drowned woman, Marie Joseph, lay at the bottom of a public pool for two days without anyone noticing? To make matters worse, people swam in the Veteran's Memorial Pool, which is located in Fall River, Ma. Joseph's body was not discovered until Tuesday evening when some youngsters jumped the fence to take an illicit evening dip, the Daily Mail said. The nine year old boy, who was reportedly with Joseph, told a life guard she had fallen into the pool, but was ignored, the Daily Mail said. Heads should be rolling at the local government department overseeing the pool.There's another sad twist to this story. According to CBS Boston, the mayor of Fall River, William A. Flanagan, said “that health inspectors from the City visited the pool on Monday and on Tuesday and inspected the facilities.” This was during the time that body was believed to be in the water. As I said, head should be rolling over this tragedy. It is quite obvious the inspectors didn't do their jobs to the best of their ability.

Andre Muller's anger management issues may have cost his son, Isayah Muller, a Truman high school football star, his life. According to the NY Post, the elder Muller, a career criminal, thought two parking attendants, Ramon Hernandez and Joselin Encarnacion, had stolen his "coveted" cologne and started a brawl that left his son dead a few hours after his high school graduation, Tuesday.The teen was stabbed to death when he tried to help his father, who was allegedly beating-up a parking attendant he suspected of stealing his $200 cologne. The teen was reportedly stabbed by Encarnacion, who claims self-defense and neither attendant has been charged by the police, though a Bronx grand jury will make a determination whether charges should be brought.
Andre Muller has a lengthy rap sheet and was once wanted for a North Carolina murder, although the charge was later dropped due to a lack of evidence.His father is reportedly inconsolable, but was it really worth it to fight over the cologne? That's all material and of no real value in the grand scheme of things. It also shows that Andre Muller still has a propensity to be violent and hasn't changed one iota. He is still a thug. His son's blood is hon his head.

Unidentified woman dies after falling from rooftop bar at W Hotel across from White House grounds.
The W Hotel is in the news again, after a woman fell to her death from the bar on the roof of the hotel, which is located across from the White House grounds. You will recall aspiring model LaShawna Threatt and her best friend, Ciara Williams fell to their deaths in May after a night of celebrating her birthday in Atlanta. Lawsuits are pending in that case in which the two women fell when a hotel window gave way.Witnesses told a police officer that the woman had been drinking at the bar on the rooftop patio of the W hotel, and that she climbed over a fence on the patio.While the woman in this case had been drinking and climbed over a fence, the public relations for the hotel is largely negative. Some people are going to avoid patronizing W Hotels nationwide because of the spate of deaths.
D.C. fire department spokesman Pete Piringer said witnesses told authorities that the woman was then seen hanging by her hands from an overhang one story below the rooftop around 11 p.m.

STOP THE GENOCIDE
The killing of young black male achievers nationwide has reached epic proportions. In a Michigan suburb a few weeks ago, a young man who attended the local high school with college aspirations for the Fall was killed when he attended a party with friends celebration their recent graduation.
The widespread killings have created a phenomena in the African-American community. For years we struggled with falling grades and GPA's below the national average for males in other groups along with low college admissions while a disproportionate number of young black males wasted their lives and purpose incarcerated by a penal system which has a tendency to be more forgiving to non-blacks. Now that we have stressed the importance of high school graduation and college attendance, these high achieving young men with dreams intent on rising above their circumstances are gunned down. These brave and dedicated young people worked to lift themselves and their families and by extension their community out of their circumstances. Why are we allowing their lives to be snuffed out?
Is this another kind of genocide? In the eighties and nineties we saw as drive- by shootings became the order of the day. In fact in law enforcement circles, the feeling among professionals was that young black males would self destruct anyway. Now we need to take a closer look at the alarming rate in which high performing individuals are being attacked and killed. Community leaders need to stand up and take authority over the lack of discipline among our young people. We need to become better at teaching them the right values and place emphasis on leading lives filled with academic achievement.
I can’t say enough how I wish this trend were not so. But in observing the headlines, it becomes clear that a new type of genocide is emerging. In other words, we are killing our own dreams and robbing our community of the long term contribution these young people would make. I am not saying that in not graduating high school you are not worthy of mention. I am simply saying in light of the incarceration likelihood among young black males, it’s time out for this rabid form of genocide.
Why are we seeking to kill one another? The alarming number of black men behind bars should indicate that the time has come for action. The first step begins in our homes. Parents must assume the responsibility to instill a desire to achieve in their children, male and female. Achievement standards should be based on a balanced curriculum of academics, sports and the arts. We need to be at the forefront of the war on violence in our community. As an advocate to end violence in our communities I am stating my desire for peaceful resolution to all areas of conflict.
In my experience I have found children to be products of their environment,I have found children do live what they learn . It means that inside our homes when we encounter situations and disagreements, we must be the example to demonstrate a non violent approach to solving areas of conflict. It’s one of the primary reasons I removed myself from a physically violent and abusive marriage as I didn’t want my daughter to be exposed to violence. I had taught her non-violent approaches to conflict. However I knew if she continued to witness seeing Daddy hit Mommy whenever there was disagreement, she would grow up to believe that it is normal.
In an effort to stem the tide of violence in my home, I with stood severe hardship and removed myself and my daughter from that abusive environment.I nonetheless persevered as I continued believing in the hope that her future is greater than her past. I took the responsibility as the parent, to ensure violence became a non-factor in her life. This is the responsibility of parenting. Parents must recognize the impact your words and actions have on the young persons in your home. We must continue in making strides to improve the ways in which we communicate and the exertion of power in our relationships. Our children are observing our behavior and are making decisions based on how they interpret our actions. We must be the ones to stem the rising tide of of disregard for human life.
This random genocide has to stop. Stop killing each other . Love one another. Respect each other. Stop using guns and other weapons of mass destruction in our communities. Stop disregarding the value of human life. We must stop the violence.

We need to become better at teaching them the right values and place emphasis on leading lives filled with academic achievement.
I can’t say enough how I wish this trend were not so. But in observing the headlines, it becomes clear that a new type of genocide is emerging. In other words, we are killing our own dreams and robbing our community of the long term contribution these young people would make. I am not saying that in not graduating high school you are not worthy of mention. I am simply saying in light of the incarceration likelihood among young black males, it’s time out for this rabid form of genocide.
Why are we seeking to kill one another? The alarming number of black men behind bars should indicate that the time has come for action. The first step begins in our homes. Parents must assume the responsibility to instill a desire to achieve in their children, male and female. Achievement standards should be based on a balanced curriculum of academics, sports and the arts. We need to be at the forefront of the war on violence in our community. As an advocate to end violence in our communities I am stating my desire for peaceful resolution to all areas of conflict.
In my experience I have found children to be products of their environment,I have found children do live what they learn . It means that inside our homes when we encounter situations and disagreements, we must be the example to demonstrate a non violent approach to solving areas of conflict. It’s one of the primary reasons I removed myself from a physically violent and abusive marriage as I didn’t want my daughter to be exposed to violence. I had taught her non-violent approaches to conflict. However I knew if she continued to witness seeing Daddy hit Mommy whenever there was disagreement, she would grow up to believe that it is normal.
In an effort to stem the tide of violence in my home, I with stood severe hardship and removed myself and my daughter from that abusive environment.I nonetheless persevered as I continued believing in the hope that her future is greater than her past. I took the responsibility as the parent, to ensure violence became a non-factor in her life. This is the responsibility of parenting. Parents must recognize the impact your words and actions have on the young persons in your home. We must continue in making strides to improve the ways in which we communicate and the exertion of power in our relationships. Our children are observing our behavior and are making decisions based on how they interpret our actions. We must be the ones to stem the rising tide of of disregard for human life.
This random genocide has to stop. Stop killing each other . Love one another. Respect each other. Stop using guns and other weapons of mass destruction in our communities. Stop disregarding the value of human life. We must stop the violence.
Underwear- What Does It Say About You?
It’s been many years since we have seen a growing trend among young people to display their underwear. We adults of a certain generation find it offensive to identify areas of one’s anatomy by the garment that covers it. In the eighties, a well known pop star first wore a bustier and created a world- wide phenomenon in the first public viewing of underwear as outerwear. That was sometime ago. In recent times we have seen young urban African-American males with their pants sagging below what is deemed appropriate to wear in public.
As part of my observation on cultural trends, it is hard not to accept the influence pop stars, musicians and actors have on impressionable minds. With the current spate in or society of children raising children, we have become deficient in the teaching of morals to our offspring. I have often said that parenting is the first frontier in the defense of the home and the values taught to the next generation.
But what about the responsibility pop stars, entertainers and athletes have to the people who support their work, buy their products, CDs and watch their movies? It’s one thing to say parents should control and monitor what their children access in media. I agree. In my household, I am the role model and the lead influencer and certainly the decision maker on what is good and acceptable for my children.
I do not allow my children to be influenced by someone whose value system I don’t know about. It’s hard to imagine that someone else outside of my sphere of influence could affect my children’s views and outlook on life. It just doesn’t happen. This to me is where all parents should strive to be.
I recognize the gap that exists between parenting, work and the balance that should be created to avoid too much access to media and third party influence on children. Take for instance the recent BET Awards. The entertainer Lil Wayne who was recently released from prison for drugs and weapons possessions (I shudder to think) wore his underwear as outerwear in his performance. I was disgusted at his complete lack of modesty and the desecration of the flag worn on his posterior.
What kind of society are we creating in which the flag is reduced to being your underwear? Now tell me why my children should take my hard earned money to purchase one of his CDs. Not in my household, and definitely not my money. This is how all parents should be. All of us must make every effort to teach our children what is right and what is wrong, what the society expects, and how to conduct themselves while bearing in mind how their actions are interpreted by others.
I find it grossly irresponsible of athletes and entertainers to disregard the influence they have on youth, while at the same time holding their hands out to take your money. I am calling for a time out on bad behavior. It is time out for me viewing your underwear as you walk through Malls, parking lots, movie cinemas and other public places. When I was growing up, we were taught to take pride in our appearance. We were told to always put your best foot forward you only get one chance to make a good impression. We need to start holding our sons and daughters accountable for how they present themselves in public. By no stretch of the imagination am I a prude. But I err on the side of good taste. I really don’t want to see your underwear in public.

Roswell GA Grandmother Lorraine Grant Accused of Beating, Sexually Molesting Three Year Old Granddaughter
Lorraine Grant has been accused of the unthinkable -- beating and sexually molesting her three year old granddaughter. According to WSB-TV, Grant, who lives in Roswell, Ga., faces child cruelty and other charges after the child suffered cracked ribs, bruises and burns to her body during her stay with her grandmother.
Lt. James McGee told Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik the girl’s mother flew to Atlanta last weekend to pick up the girl after Grant, who is her mother-in-law, stopped returning calls.This is very, very sick and this woman deserves to be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Three years old is awfully young to let a child fly across the country to stay with a relative, who doesn't seem to be a part of the child's life to a great extent. Wouldn't the child miss her mother a lot?
McGee said she noticed the burns and bruises and contacted East Point police, because she had been staying in a hotel near the airport. Medical workers took the girl to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, where X-rays revealed broken ribs, said McGee.
McGee said Roswell officers raided Grant’s Treeridge Parkway apartment Sunday looking for evidence but couldn’t find Grant. He said she turned herself in to police late Monday afternoon. Source: WSB-TV
R&B Legend Patti LaBelle Countersues Former West Point Cadet Richard King, Who Accused Her, Son Zuri Edwards & Bodyguard of Airport "Beatdown"
Soul legend Patti LaBelle has filed a counter-suit against former West Point cadet Richard King, who accused her of ordering beatdown at Houston airport because he "stood too close to her luggage."
Soul legend Patti LaBelle has lobbed a counter-suit Richard King's way. You know, he is the former West Point cadet who accused Patti LaBelle of siccing her bodyguard on him for allegedly "standing too close to her luggage." We at the Hinterland Gazette know there are two sides to every story, but we believe in Patti LaBelle, who has never been embroiled in any scandals in her 50 years in the music business. Her countersuit alleges King addressed her in a "racially and sexually offensive way." The video has no audio and King claims he had a few drinks on the plane. But really, does an inebriated person every say they are drunk? No.
LaBelle's lawsuit, filed in federal district court in Houston, contends Richard King started the fight that sent him to the hospital with a concussion by punching Zuri Edwards, LaBelle's son and limousine driver, in the face.King, 23, became embroiled in the altercation after he arrived a Bush Intercontinental Airport's Terminal C on March 11. The episode, much of it captured on security video tape, shows the Houston man being hit, pushed and shoved by two men and a woman in the terminal's passenger pickup area.In early June, King filed a lawsuit against the singer and her associates asking for actual and punitive damages. LaBelle's counter-suit, filed late last week, claims self-defense and, in turn, seeks actual damages and litigation costs from King. Source
We will wait for this case to be tried in a court of law. We refuse to throw Patti LaBelle under a bus for all the good she has done and the way she has held her head high throughout her career as an entertainer, social activist and business woman. Buffalo Teen Terry Jiminez Charged with Murder of Robert Foster Jr. During Gunfire at Caribbean Carnival in Washington D.C.
Terry Jiminez, 19, was arrested for the murder of Robert Foster, Jr., an innocent bystander at the Caribbean Carnival in Washington D. C. Saturday, who was caught in the crossfire of a gun battle between rival gangs. Jiminez was charged with Murder 2 While Armed, according to WUSA9.com. Two other persons were shot in the gunfire. One was treated and released and the other is still hospitalized. It should be noted that Terry Jiminez is no stranger to the correction system in this country. Canadian Constable Garrett Styles Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle During Traffic Stop in Ontario
Canadian Constable Garrett Styles killed after being struck and pinned underneath vehicle during traffic stop in Gwillimbury, driver of vehicle arrested.
We don't often report on Canadian officers being killed in the line of duty, but it is important nonetheless and we regret to inform you that Constable Garrett Styles, 32, with the York Regional Police Service, was struck and killed during a traffic stop.According to Officer Down Memorial Page, Styles has stopped a vehicle at an intersection in Gwillimbury, Ontario. He was then struck by another car and pinned underneath. He was able to radio for help, but later died when he was transported to a hospital in Newmarket. The driver of the vehicle that struck him was arrested.
Styles served with the police department for seven years and is survived by a wife and two young children. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
Black Canadian Senator Donald Oliver Tells Blacks to "Rise Up and Claim Rightful Positions"
Black Canadian Conservative Senator Don Oliver tells blacks to "rise up and claim our rightful place" of power to stamp out racism in his country.
"What will it take for our collective Afro-Canadian family to unite — to rise up and claim our rightful place in Canadian society?" Conservative Senator Don Oliver recently asked in keynote speech to black professionals.Oliver's position is valid, if there is overt and systemic racism as he alleges, but I guess the bigger question I have is what are the blacks there doing to effect change? You can't just speak it and expect miracles. You have to get up and take action. For all those folks who think the senator's words are a call to action for "violence," think twice.
"Racism still holds us back, both in the public and the private sector . . . Our co-workers do not accept us, do not treat us fairly, that equality is wanting and diversity is not a reality as it should be," he said.
Oliver said he's experienced overt racism throughout his life. "From the days that I started going to school, age five, six and seven, right up until today, and I'm almost 73. I encounter racism at almost every turn," he said. Even on Parliament Hill, Oliver said, racism is the reason there are few visible minorities in executive positions.
"In Parliament is there racism? In the Senate, in the House of Commons, in the library of Parliament are there barriers? There certainly are. In the past, I have met with the clerk of the Senate, with the clerk of the House of Commons and with the head of the library of Parliament and have had very candid and frank talks with them about the barriers that exist."
Oliver blames Canada's experience with slavery for much of the black community's inability to support each other and for the stereotypes old-stock Canadians continue to show.

The Chris Brown Show, BET Continues to be on the Wrong Side of Integrity, Coddling Homophobic & Abusive Singer
I among many other African-Americans watched the BET Awards Show Sunday. It was interesting to watch various performers entertain us with their talent. I must confess, I became hesitant to believe in the integrity of the judges who decide the winners as Chris Brown emerged the winner in every category he was nominated.
Call it good luck or a comeback. I choose to call it a non-factor. The issue is Chris Brown has demonstrated scant regard for his violent and abusive tendencies. Recently on a "Good Morning America" segment, he threw a chair through a window. He was rewarded for his bad behavior by appearances on other TV shows. How much longer as a community are we going to continue rewarding abusive men? Some two years ago he was convicted of domestic assault on his then girlfriend, Rihanna. I, myself have survived an abusive relationship. I am intimately familiar with the signs of abuse.
It’s fairly predictable that it’s only a matter of time before he hits someone again. Why did the BET Awards place such an emphasis on his less than stellar achievements? In doing so what they have done is to call into discredit the achievements of others who have gone before and who have paved the way for people like Chris Brown to come forward. It’s a shame to have turned the BET 2011 Awards Show into the Chris Brown Show. In light of his violent tendencies he hasn’t’ been a shining example of black manhood. Unless I get this wrong, black men do want the society to perceive them as non-violent. Help me out here.
If non-violent black men want to change the society’s’ perception then it’s time to stop supporting men who continue to use their wives and girlfriends, sisters, and daughters as battering ram and receptacles for their expression of anger. How can we expect the wider society to believe that we are interested in progress and non-violent approaches to conflict resolution if we continue to exalt persons who exhibit anger and violence as a method of communication?
I am not averse to individuals being given a second chance. I myself have been given many second chances. The fact that I can write this today is proof of the many changes I have been given. I am deeply appreciative of living the life I now live, one outside of violence. I wish that all women and children and men will experience that too. The society as a whole doles out second chances to individuals to ensure their return to normalcy. I believe in this regard, entertainer Lil Wayne has benefited to some degree. I was distressed to see him using his underwear as outerwear and choosing to using the flag as coverage for his nether parts. Something has got to give. This kind of self-destructive behavior needs to be addressed. It was the host Kevin Hart who at to the beginning of the show says entertainers are surrounded by ‘yes’ men. He called for a time of ‘no’ men. Those who call a spade a spade.
The next time someone seeks to change our perception of who we are, I believe we would want that to be good. If I may point out, the whole crux of the Civil Rights Movement was a non-violent approach to solving the issues of that time.
Now, we are standing on the shoulders of those who have gone before, who laid their lives down that we might experience our heyday and appreciation for our talents. At some point someone has to stand up and say enough is enough. We are not proud of your activities on and off the stage. Once you take the stage in any field, you have now become a role model for others to look up to. I hesitate to think that the well meaning persons in Chris Brown’s circle have no appreciation for the impact his behavior has on others. It would be remiss of them to underestimate the power of suggestion. By giving him more and more access to media, you are further enhancing his image of being a bad boy, that it is okay to be bad, in fact here is a trophy in recognition of your activity.
I am disappointed in BET. I would have thought they would have placed any necessary recognition on Chris in a muted way. I did not expect this show to honor performers and entertainers, turned out to be designed as an expose or a comeback. The wider society now thinks African Americans celebrate violent and abusive actions perpetrated by men on their intimate partners. The Chris Brown Show? Yes it was, the message was clear it wasn’t about celebrating achievement. It was about an in your face attitude that violence against women is okay.

NY Daily News sportswriter Mike Lupica attacks black former NFL-star David Tyree as "playing without a helmet" or brainless in his opposition to gay marriage.
By now you have heard gay marriage is now legal in New York state. Well, that's barring any delays due to lawsuits beyond the 30 day limit after Gov. Andrew Cuomo signing it into law. Personally, I believe marriage should be between a man and a woman, but I am all for civil unions for the LGBT community. I believe marriage is a religious rite that comes under the church. On that basis, a pastor or priest shouldn't be forced to marry a same sex couple. Viewed as a civil rite handled by city hall or a justice of the peace, then I am all for gay marriage. Would I go out of my way to stop gays and lesbians from getting married? No, but I wouldn't vote for it on any ballot. Sorry. That's coming from my Christian beliefs and no, this isn't similar to the civil rights movement that came out of overt racism towards blacks. I do find it very hypocritical for New York Daily News sports writer Mike Lupica to call a black former NFL star, David Tyree, brainless, for taking a position against gay marriage. I thought this country afforded us the right to freedom of speech under the U.S. Constitution. In fact, it was insulting for Lupica to mock Tyree for sounding like he was playing without a helmet. In other words, brain damaged and yes, stupid:On the sports pages we get the ex-Giant, David Tyree, who once made the greatest catch in Super Bowl history pressing a ball against his helmet one night against the Patriots in Glendale, Ariz. and now sounds as if he might have occasionally played without one. A helmet. And this isn't because Tyree says he would give up his Super Bowl win to prevent gay marriage from becoming the law in New York.While I don't agree that gay marriage will lead to anarchy in the streets, I do defend David Tyree's right to his opinion. Never mind the fact that, when asked by ESPN.com, Tyree said his use of the word "anarchy" was about the eroding of the "moral fabric of our country." Rush Limbaugh has been calling President Barack Obama a myriad of "ugly" names and none of his bosses have stepped in to condemn his ridiculous name-calling. The latest was calling Obama Adolf Hitler, a man who led the charge to wipe out Jews from Europe. I am all for equality for the LGBT community, but don't ask me to compromise my religious beliefs. Let me be clear, I believe gay marriage should be handled on a state level and if the lawmakers vote to legalize it in their state, then so be it. I have always voted for candidates who best personify my views. The same holds true for other issues that pop up on ballots. If a court of law gives gays and lesbians the right to marry, then I don't have a bone in that dogfight either. But if it shows up on a ballot in my state, then I will vote as I have always voted, for the candidates and issues that best meet my needs and beliefs.

Li'l Wayne Desecrated US Flag by Wearing Stars & Stripes Sagging Shorts on BET Awards
Li'l Wayne just desecrated everything the U.S. flag stands for by appearing on stage to the BET Awards with a Stars & Stripes sagging shorts with his underwear showing. Disgraceful. This also speaks to Lil Wayne's lack of respect for women, children and this country, in general. Sergeant Darrell Curley, with the Navajo Division of Public Safety, was shot and killed when he and another officer responded to a domestic disturbance call in Kaibito, AZ, Saturday.The dispute involved a fight between two brothers. Another officer who had responded to the scene was also shot and wounded. Sergeant Curley was transported to a hospital in Page, Arizona, where he succumbed to his wounds.Our thoughts and prayers go out to the officer's family. It is such a tragedy when a police officer loses his life in the line of duty.

Live Blogging: Creflo Dollar said some people may not be pleased with him after his sermon about whether God has led them to the church. He said if they were led there, then they can see the leader as a gift from God and not rock the boat. He said the calling of God is without repentance. He said Satan is against any calling of God and his objective is to do something to get you out of place. The call of God didn't change. He said he believes in World Changers for life. He said there are too many believers in churches causing problems because they are in the wrong place. Couldn't we make the same argument about pastors? He said that everybody who comes there is not for he and his wife Taffy. Their purpose is to seek to divide and destroy. He said when you come looking for something wrong, you will find it. He said when you are in the right church, you can submit to the "man" and what he says. In other words, you must submit to the pastor.1 Cor. 3:9 -- You are fellow workmen with God and for God. You can't be a believer in a church and causing problems. He said we are laborers together for God. You can't be in a church and have problems with leadership. Division and schism will lead to difficulty to work together. If you cannot receive your leader as being from God, then you are in the wrong place. He said you need to get out now. He said you will eventually gather a clique around you who share your criticism of the church, then you will displease God. What about the pastors who are displeasing God? Er, is Creflo trying to walk back or clarify comments he made about Bishop Eddie L. Long's "wreck?"
Numbers 11:1 -- How God views complaining -- when the people complained, it displeased God & fire of God burnt among them and consumed them. God's anger is kindled when we speak against servants of God. Er, didn't they speak against Jesus? Is Creflo Dollar comparing his stature to that of Jesus, Moses, Abraham, etc.? When you tallk about your pastor and leadership and then things start going wrong in your life, then God's anger is kindled against you. Amos 3:7 - Surely the Lord will do nothing without revealing His secrets to his prophets.
He said people who speak against he and his wife, Taffy, don't understand the Word of God. He said somebody said we don't want you in that neighborhood, talking about the mega-church proposal in the Bronx (dormant Kingsbridge Armory). He said one part of him says "don't nobody care about what you think."
James 4:11 -- Speak not evil one of another. he that speaketh evil of his brother, judging the law. There's one lawgiver.... Who art thou who judges another... He said it's the issue of judging in the church that is a problem. He said one who judges condemns others for their visible problems. He said their attitudes stem from root problems he or she hasn't overcome. He said people who judge other folks are probably doing the same thing. Really? How many of us are engaging in sexual misconduct? Come on Creflo, that's total BS. He said one who judges form an opinion on hearsay or the media -- according to the appearance. He said the scriptures is warning us not to judge. He said we have a new court in America, called the media. He said you are judging on appearances and it is not right. The media says we are gong to sentence you guilty based on appearance, no matter what the court of law says.
He said if you are not getting blessed, not getting anything from the word, the choir makes your head hurt, everybody getting on your nerve - you aren't in the right church. When you accept your spiritual leader as being from God, then you are in the right church. If God called you somewhere and something happened, that doesn't mean you shouldn't be there. Maybe it was to prepare for a great attack that was going to come on the church, then maybe he called all the powerful people to your church. He said you can't make anyone or anything run you away from your church. He said Taffy and himself aren't trying to say things that aren't in the Bible. He said his job is not to preach his opinions, but from the Word of God. In other words, he is justifying his friend, Eddie L. Long's actions.
Matthew 10:40-41 - Jesus said he that receiveth you, receiveth me. He said he that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward..... He said it's important to receive your spiritual leader as someone sent by God, then you receive God. Ephesians 4:11 -- He gave some apostles and some prophets and some evangelists, some pastors, some teachers.....fivefold ministry gifts. He wants you to consider the spiritual leader as a gift -- not to control or hurt beat people but to perfect the saints. Er, did Bishop Long hear this? He says what's going on in other people's churches is none of his business. He said what goes on with the men of God under his authority is his business. So, why did he tell the people who were coming from New Birth to his church to go back because their pastor had a "wreck?" Wasn't he getting involved in their business? He said pastors are going to be held accountable by what they did with the "sheep" they were sent to lead. He said he doesn't want another pastor to fail, while he succeeds.

This is the third in a series on “Lessons Learned from Atlanta; The Rise and Fall of the Mega Church”. In this section we are looking at the egos behind individuals who pastor these large congregations. You might be placed in an uncomfortable position as you might find yourself being described as a member of one of these facilities. Take comfort in the fact that I attended a mega church as part of my recent spiritual experience.
For many years I sat in congregations and watched as church leaders and pastors took advantage of the largely good intentions of people who attended their services.These individuals are a study in egotism. Typically they are from impoverished backgrounds or they are second or third generation preachers. This profession is the only one in which a man of color can access an executive position with all the trappings and benefits of that position without a college degree. I have found them to be experts at the art of manipulation. They know how to use their positions to control the people around them. Most pastors of mega churches have gained a foothold in the political, religious, and social life of their community.
It is not unlikely in any given election season to see politicians visiting large churches for the purpose of influencing voters. Pastors ensure that groups of politicians and people involved in public service pass through their services during election time and it becomes a bragging right next time he meets with other pastors. The larger the church, the more influential the pastor.
With more money comes more influence and more power. He/she makes sure you know how much power and influence he has. He/she will tell you from the pulpit on Sundays whom he/she met with in the week, and you will see a tangible display of his/her power by how large his/her entourage is.
Oh yes, every pastor has an entourage. These are made up of a group of persons who are on the church payroll oand/or some volunteers who are only too happy to be caught up in the limelight, and who serve as part of the personal security detail, and personal assistants of the pastor and his family. The goal of any large entourage is to make you feel intimidated that you cannot do or say anything against him/her, or he/she will have his minions pay you a visit.
The more money he/she has is the larger his/her fleet of vehicles will be. His/her transportation fleet includes private jets, limo rides, and a fleet of high priced vehicles all at their disposal. In most large churches, the pastor does not meet with the members individually. He/she passes that burden on to one of his/her many assistant pastors. Obviously if you are a large tither (i.e. giving of large sums of money consistently) you might just be lucky enough to earn a personal visit from him/her.
Due to their large egos, they see themselves as celebrities and develop a rock star complex. So they are driven by members of their staff.Members of their entorugae form a procession in, i.e. some drive before him and some drive behind him. What a pompous way of looking at yourself! To really beleive you are so important, you are treated in the same fashion as a visiting head of state!
Some years ago, I had read of a story of an influentional preacher, who had been invited to speak at a conference. When she arrived at the airport there was no limo waiting to pick her up. The church leaders who had invited her assumed that sending a Suburban was more than nice, she didn't agrre. She hired a limo and billed it to the church!
Pastors of these huge facilities demand and expect recognition.Their wives are given the same authority a first lady has. After all, they think, I’m not the pastor of just another store-front church, am I? The material things are designed to show a mega display of ego. It says to the world, HERE I AM. I AM SOMEBODY. WORSHIP ME.

Bishop Long says poverty is not a spirit, it's a mentality and if you keep seeing yourself as poor, you will remain in poverty and God wants to give us wealth.
Live-Blogging New Birth Services: Bishop Eddie L. Long tells congregation that poverty is not a spirit, it's a mentality. He said rich people don't get upset when they lose money because they know how to make it back. He said Donald Trump lost a lot of money a few years ago and made it back in two years. He's pushing wealth transfer, saying God will illuminate that to believers when they are ready to walk into wealth. He said he and his wife went to the movie and decided to spend the movie on "their" side of town to give the money back to their community, inside of on the "other" side of town. They had planned on starting a Whole Foods stores, another way to rob the church members. He says the older he gets, the more he finds out what life is all about.He said you don't have to go through hell to know what it's like and he chuckled. He added, I won't touch that. Yielding podium to Bishop George C. Bloomer from North Carolina, (family came from Jamaica) who Bishop Long says is a man of transparency and integrity. He said he is so happy to be in the light of Bishop Eddie Long. Laughable.

Bloomer said his family comes from Jamaica and his grandmother would say anyone who messes with them, she would threaten voodoo. He said his father wasn't a good guy, but his mother wouldn't allow him to say anything bad about it. Said his father left him at the door by not coming to take him Christmas shopping and that started his downward spiral to drugs, prison, etc. The enemy wants to stop you at your greatest trial so you can't get to your greatest accomplishment.
The first thing he does is to get rid of hearsay. If you can get that broken over your life, then you can move forward. If you keep replying, you're dead. Only Jesus can keep your mind regulated. He said every demonic spirit that is in your, holding your pocketbook is broken today. He said "tell someone we're about to be paid now." The spirit of poverty in Greek mythology is depicted as a rat - a human body with rat's head -- called Nibbles. He said you have to walk over to the Devil and say take your best shot -- when I come up, I'll come up more powerful. He said all you have to do is speak whatever you want to happen in your life out in the open. God is using to Devil to take care of the stuff you couldn't handle. Make sure you hook up with someone big enough and bad enough to walk with you into the devil's camp to get your stuff back.
People started walking to the front and putting money in a receptacle when Bloomer hit a crescendo! God allows us to go through things to build our faith and character. Storms come make you weak first before it makes you stronger. He said God is about to break every yoke in your life. The people are screaming and carrying on. I have never seen anything like this before. A real Jim Jones cult-like atmosphere. They are coming forward and putting money in a container on the altar. Seems funny that Bloomer should be hollering about money flows when the covenant isn't broken. He drives a Bentley. Yes, a Bentley.
MONEY GRAB: Bishop Bloomer ended by telling 30 people God will wipe away their problems if they sow $1,000, then called for 60 and 100 to also sow a seed. Bishop Long leads charge laying his offering on the altar.
He's telling the congregation that he breaks every financial struggle in church today. He closed by saying nothing happens that gets pass God. He knows what's coming. He said from June 26 to August 1, the walls are opening up and angels are coming in the room. Everyone has been touched with an angel's wing. Exodus 23:20. The angel will carry you to the place where your blessing and miracle are. I'm just shaking my head. Watch out June 26 - August 1, 2011, is a season of blessings. He said his house went into foreclosure and he went and bought the house back at the auction for $330,000 + less and paid for it cash, wiping out 20 years of mortgage. He said he wants New Birth to become a 100 percent tithing church. He said 30 people will walk into their destiny through a miracle in the season. He asked for an uncommon seed of $1,000 to be sowed. A whole group of people have walked up to the stage to give money, what some clearly don't have. How is George Bloomer any different from a street hustler? He blesses 30, 60, 100 people. He's still asking for more money from these. If 100 people give $30, that's $30,000. Seems like being a pastor of a mega-church is akin to running a big company. Why would you want any other job when you can run such a scheme on gullible people? Bishop Long joined the crowd and gave his offering, but Vanessa Long was no where to be seen. Shouldn't she have been standing next to her husband? This was such a concerted effort to collect a lot of money from the congregation, some of whom were probably giving their last dollar in the hopes of getting a miracle tenfold, which may not materialize. This isn't about obedience, this was a shakedown, plain and simple.Still no sign of Vanessa Long, though Bishop Eddie Long joined the crowd to give his offering at the altar, shouldn't she have also stood to give her offering too?
Let me end by again asking, where is Vanessa Long? The camera doesn't pan to her, so one has to keep asking why we can't see Mrs. Long. Eddie Long always makes a point of referencing her when he talks, but we can't seem to see her. What's up with that? Why was Rev. Bloomer's sermon on trials and how to respond? If he's such a man of integrity, why hasn't he encouraged his "covenant friend" to speak about his actions and what led him to an alleged multi-million settlement with Spencer LeGrande, Maurice Robinson, Anthony Flagg and Jamal Parris?It was shocking to hear Bishop Bloomer telling the congregation in the second service that the church doors aren't going to close. They also had a money grab in the second service, much like the first.

HATE CRIME: Carter Strange, who is white, was allegedly attacked and beaten early Monday morning in the Five Points area of Columbia, SC, by a group of black teens. According to WIS-TV, all eight suspects are in police custody, while the victim is in critical condition. Thyeem Henrey, 19, was charged with second degree assault and battery by mob, common law robbery and criminal conspiracy, WIS-TV said. His bond has been set at $750,000. Yeah, he'll never be able to post that, so thankfully this thug is off the streets. The other seven suspects, ranging from ages 13 to 16, cannot be named because they are minors. Where were their parents? They should be behind bars with them as well.Police Chief Randy Scott said the 18-year-old victim, later identified as Carter Strange, was jogging through a parking lot near the intersection of Blossom Street and Saluda Avenue just after midnight on Monday when the assault happened. "This teenager was minding his own business, trying to make his curfew when he was brutally attacked and robbed," said Scott. It is a shame that the city of Columbia, SC, was forced to pass an emergency curfew to get thugs off th street in the aftermath of the vicious beating of white teen, Carter Strange, by eight black males.Council members unanimously passed an ordinance during a special work session Tuesday morning making in against the law for anyone under the age of 17 to be out in the Five Points area between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. The curfew lasts 60 days and goes into effect immediately. It will be enforced every day of the week. SourceI applaud the city for taking such a move. It is time the parents of these young thugs were also held accountable for their actions.

Dutch protesters burn photocopies of cover of Lawrence Hill's "Book of Negroes" or "Het Negerboek" over its title.
The Book of Negroes is the title of an actual historical document which documents the migration of 3,000 African slaves who supported the British cause in the American Revolution and were allowed to go from New York to Nova Scotia. Many of them later returned to Africa.The title of the book was changed in the U.S. and Australia to "Someone Knows My Name." It seems that nobody wanted to touch the book under its original title. But I have to wonder what took this anti-slavery group so long to come out in protest against the book. After all, it was published in 2008. Besides, since when is the word "negro" taboo? The book was not offensive in the least and it is really disturbing that "burning" photocopies of the cover is the only way they could stage a protest. Read more about "Someone Knows My Name."

President Obama a monarch? Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) warned that President Barack Obama is becoming an "absolute monarch" on matters related who has authority to start a war. Yeah, the Democrats are abandoning Obama in droves over his decision to engage in a third war - Libya. Nadler said Congress must act to limit funding for military operations in Libya in order to correct that trend."We have been sliding for 70 years to a situation where Congress has nothing to do with the decision about whether to go to war or not, and the president is becoming an absolute monarch," Nadler said on the floor. "And we must put a stop to that right now, if we don't want to become an empire instead of a republic. SourceI agree that this wasn't President Obama's decision to make on his own accord, but I'm sure he consulted our military leaders first. This is the fastest I have ever seen Congress move forward to get anything done. Why can't we have the same fervor and commitment to issues that directly affect the people on Main Street grappling with high unemployment and foreclosure rates?
