Rep. Artur Davis' Hopes to Become Alabama's First Black Governor Dashed, Beaten by Ron Sparks in Primary

Ron Sparks defeats Rep. Artur Davis in Democratic gubernatorial primary in Alabama.

BREAKING:  Ron Sparks, Alabama Agriculture Commissioner, defeats Rep. Artur Davis in Democratic gubernatorial primary in Alabama. Davis comes up short. Won't make history as the first black governor of Alabama. I am not surprised by the votes tonight. According to the Birmingham News, Davis didn't fare well in the black community, as voter turn-out was very low. It's funny that Sparks had once considered dropping out of the race, but decided to give it a second chance and Artur Davis campaigned hard and still came up empty.
