Jim Bowles, the president of oil giant ConocoPhillips Alaska, was killed and one other person, Alan Gage, is feared dead, after they were swept away while snowmobiling on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula, state police said. Bowles was reportedly with a dozen snowmobilers in the Grandview wilderness area in close proximity to Seward, when an avalanche tore down the slope on Saturday.
The search for Gage is expected to resume Sunday, after it was suspended Saturday due to darkness. Bowles' body was recovered Saturday night. He had headed ConocoPhillips Alaska operations since November 2004 and managed about 900 employees.
